Psych vs Radiology vs Pathology
Wasn’t sure where to post this — I’m still a med student but figured the people in this subsection would have better knowledge about this question: Which of the aforementioned specialties has the best lifestyle when it comes to hours, stress levels, ease-of-learning during residency, etc? I’m a non-trad student and older than most other students and have worked my fair share of stressful jobs before med school… I’m honestly at the point of my life where lifestyle is pretty much the only... The biggest disappointment of USCAP Annual Meeting
No, it wasn't Boston weather, food at the hospitality suite or even Rosai's speech. It was women. Face it: the quality of females entering a field is a function of overall hotness of the field. Remember all these hotties from medschool who matched into derm? Now fast forward to last weeks' event, and recall the poster sessions. All those out of shape bodies wrapped in frumpy skirts, pants and shirts, sallow faces, coffee stained teeth, frizzled hair... Sadly, especially female... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Your Eye Specialists Cornea, Refractive, and Glaucoma Fellowship
I wanted to post a review for Your Eye Specialists (YES) Cornea, Refractive, and Glaucoma Fellowship after I completed the fellowship a few weeks ago. It was an exceptional year with excellent surgical training and broad clinical pathology. You will spend most of your time with Drs. Aarup and Anup Kubal (brothers) and Dr. Anil Vedula. They are all fantastic surgeons, mentors, and friends. I not only learned a ton, but I really enjoyed working with them each day. They truly want you to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

PGY2 looking at Path
Hello all! First, please don’t quote. Second, I am a PGY2 that was terminated from residency just last week and am seeking advice. To try and summate: I completed roughly 19 months of residency (2020-early 2022) in a primary care field. Due to a toxic program and work environment (was bullied, picked on, etc) I ended up resigning while trying to figure out if I even wanted to stay in medicine. For the next few months that followed I searched high and low for jobs and it became utterly... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pathology vs RadOnc
Would you advise a medical student to go into path or radonc? An interesting discussion, considering radonc's history and its current implosion. Here's a funny conversation I saw on their form: RealSimulD said: Going to an Indian wedding. They used to seat me next to ENT Patel and Moh’s Reddy. Now, I’m with Podiatry Patel and Endocrine Reddy. Different vibe for sure. Click to expand... medgator said: Nuc med Shah and path Gupta are in the cards for your next table Click to expand... (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Will studying from the following resources during preclinicals prepare me well for Step 1 and beyond?
Incoming M1 at a 2 year traditional curriculum with unranked, true P/F. First year covers anatomy, physiology, biochem, immunology, and micro; second year covers neuro, psych, pharm, and clinical pathology. I'll be relying on the AnKing v11 deck -- Costanzo for physiology, Pixorize for biochem and immuno, Sketchy for micro and pharm, and Pathoma for clinical pathology. Subtracting the overlaps, I'm counting the total number of cards to be around 19,600. Obviously, I'll also do UWorld and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Thought on VA?
Inspired by a recent posting for a position at the VA in San Francisco, I searched prior posts on this board for thoughts on the VA. One thing that stuck out was someone saying the VA is one of the last lifeboats on the Titanic (maybe I’m recalling the wording differently Do you all think that’s still the case? Pathology vs. Internal Medicine
Hi everyone, I'm a M4 at a US medical school who's on the fence between pathology and internal medicine. My Step 1 score is 235, Step 2CK score is pending, have 1 clerkship honor, 2 preclerkship honors. Overall leaning more towards pathology, but I have yet to take a pathology elective, although I have one scheduled in the near future. Was wondering if anyone could help tip the decision in favor of pathology, or try to talk me out of doing pathology / tell me that it's a terrible idea to... Academic jobs in Podiatry...Thoughts?
I was offered a director position recently. Salary is well north of 300k for 3 years at an academic institution. Clinical work would be similar pathology. Supportive institution for research etc. Comes with more admin work(research and policy making) and less clinic work(.85 clincal FTE). Anyone here a director or in leadership position that can give me their thoughts. It is salaried and not entirely based on productivity. Feels like I might become a bureaucrat instead of a podiatrist but... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

dealing with the stresses of day-to-day work
I'm 1 year out from residency and currently working inpatient. I feel as though I cycle through busy and frustrating weeks followed by days or weeks where things are less stressful. Most of it, at least on my reflection, seems to be dictated by the severity and pathology of patients we admit. I've isolated several factors that frustrate me the most - family pressures to effectively change a person's life, drug-seeking patients that continue to ask for escalating controlled medications, and...
