Demographics, Collapse of the Consumer Economy and the Fate of Healthcare
Im pondering more and more what healthcare will look like in the US and abroad in 20-50 years. Right now physicians regardless of geography face massive governmental wage controls. UK, EU, Asia or US it doesnt matter. Even in the US system of fee for service, CMS tightly controls physician pay and has been consistently dropping payment as volumes go up due to the older demographic wave coming. Now, fast forward to a massive coming drop in labor participation due to the collapsing... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pathologist overworked and burntout?
I came across this article: https://lumea.net/pathologists-are-overworked/ I kind of wonder if this is truly real. It seems to be another call that "we are short of pathologists, please believe us this time." I believe the only true metric is to look at salary and competitiveness to assess job need. I think if there is burnout it is due to lack of respect and the fact we get so poorly compensated. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

DO chances at pathology w/Step 1 failure
I am not sure if this is the best thread for this so apologies if it is not. I am a 3rd year DO student who passed COMLEX 1 but did not pass Step1. Pretty much feels like a worse case scenario. No other issues during preclinicals and doing well on my clinical rotations so far. Grew up in the Tristate Area and currently on the West Coast. Geographically I hoping to match in these areas even though I know chances are slim. I'm hoping to match in pathology with IM and EM being backup. Is... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Preliminary Autopsy Diagnosis
Anyone here have any resources or advice on how to construct a PAD? I just started autopsy rotation and I've written 1 PAD so far (was critiqued and re-written by the autopsy director). Generally speaking I know one is supposed to list by organ system, in the format: process, site, then organ. Although there are exceptions to this. Any advice or resources would be greatly appreciated! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Medicare H & P jobs
I completed an intern year in pathology and a transitional year after that. I am currently in an ONMM program for 2 years with a training license but haven’t taken my comlex level 3 yet. I was wondering if anybody can help guide me to where I can apply for a job for Medicare H&Ps. I had read about this in the past that it’s possible after completing an intern year. If anybody can share their experience or any info about this I would really appreciate it. Thank you. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pathology residency as a second residency?
I am a family medicine physician for about 4 years now and I am interested in pathology as a second residency. I am just curious to know what my chances are. Although I do not have any research, I have accumulated various accolades and titles such as chief resident, medical director of my hospital, I started the wound care clinic at my hospital, nursing home medical director etc. I am a DO, so I would have to take the USMLE, which I plan to. In my research it appears pathology isn't that... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Residents learning in your department
Hi! I am 2nd year pathology resident from Spain. I am interested in finding out what the teaching organization of residents in your pathology department is like, especially the residents who have just joined. In my department, the teaching organization is practically non-existent. We legally have a chief of residents, but he does absolutely nothing. I am interested above all in the organization of the R1 and, especially, how grossing for the R1 is organized in your department. In my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

CAP board of gov candidates
Wow! The CAP board of governors candidates don’t inspire confidence, at least on paper. Smitty Collum- Labcorp mid America medical director. I assume the private hospital practice he was with for 25 years prior to his LC employment was bought out. Doc Debarca- six jobs at different places listed since fellowship completed in 2006. ( 6 places in 16 years!). Bobbie Pruitt- Mayo academic Jim Zhai- Mayo academic. They all think we need more paths.🤣 Y’all enjoy the election.🫣 (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Psych vs Radiology vs Pathology
Wasn’t sure where to post this — I’m still a med student but figured the people in this subsection would have better knowledge about this question: Which of the aforementioned specialties has the best lifestyle when it comes to hours, stress levels, ease-of-learning during residency, etc? I’m a non-trad student and older than most other students and have worked my fair share of stressful jobs before med school… I’m honestly at the point of my life where lifestyle is pretty much the only...
