Mba
Hi everybody, What do you think of pathologists pursuing an MBA? It seems that there is a lack of business involvement from pathologists, and the lab seems to be like its own entreprise apart from the hospital. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Going for residency with very few fellowships ?
Some of the residencies I am interviewing at have very few fellowships, and don’t have peds path that right now I think might be my top choice . One of them doesn’t even have a peds fellowship in the area, 3 of them have one in the area but it’s not theirs. Can someone experienced in path please talk me through advantages and disadvantages of going to a program with very few fellowships ? And not have a local fellowship in your field of interest? I don’t want to make a mistake I’ll regret... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What ’s with peds pathology ?
Applied to residency now . Relatively competitive, no red flags . From rotations alone I like peds path, and want to take a deeper look during residency . Noticed that very few ppl go for peds path . Why ? Is the market bad? Low pay ? What do I need to know ? (Fyi - ideally trying to go to Texas for family reasons, but will consider anywhere) (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Are "Ivory Tower" academic pathology programs actually accessible to regular MD students?
I was looking at this table (below) for stats of the "test scores and experiences of first year residents" published by the AAMC. I was a little blown away by the number of publications in the upper 75th and 90th percentile, as these rival or surpass other specialties like IM, general surgery, vascular surgery, etc. I'm doing a research year in path right now, but it feels like I would need to do a PhDs worth of work to get into the higher level academic residencies. Looking at the "Current... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Digital Pathology And Working from Home or Abroad?
Anyone here knows of any pathologist working at home or abroad full time signing out cases via digital pathology? I personally don’t know of any. I wouldn’t mind living in another country signing out cases for a living just to enjoy life a little more. If not, anyone knows how much longer before something like this becomes feasible lol? I mean if I can spend a few months in Bora Bora or Hawaii, I would love it. I enjoy traveling and experiencing other cultures. If I could do it while I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What is "Any Lab Test Now!" ?
Any Lab Test Now® Franchise Franchise With The LeaderIn Retail Lab Testing www.anylabtestnow.com Is this a legitimate business operation or just a money laundering scheme? Is there that much direct-to-consumer test business out there that you can open up a franchise to be essentially a phlebotomy draw site? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

GI pathology fellowship advice
Hello, I am interested in pursuing GI pathology fellowship. I am interested in University of Utah and University of Washington programs as there are close to my home. Can anyone shed light on pros and cons of both the programs. both the institutions have a good name in the field. University of Utah has a good faculty line as per their website. I thought University of Washington is a better program than Utah, but, they look short staffed in GI path as per their website. Of these two, which... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Diagnostic radiology in a bear market?
As we all know, the radiology job market is very hot right now (ie. Some Graduates getting offers without fellowships). However, after the great financial crisis in 2008, many older radiologists delayed retirement. This meant that the radiology job market came to look more like the pathology job market. Graduates doing multiple fellowships only to get a job in the middle of nowhere despite wanting to stay on the coasts/city. With the S&P 500 crashing with no end in sight, do people on here... Pathology Advice
Heys everybody! I originally posted this in the boards form but it was recommended that I cross post here. I apologize if this is out of bounds for this form. I am a 3rd year DO student who passed COMLEX 1 but did not pass Step1. Pretty much feels like a worse case scenario. No other issues during preclinicals and doing well on my clinical rotations so far. I'm hoping to match in pathology with IM and EM being backup. Is there a chance of me matching path? Should I retake Step 1? I know... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Asking for tips for international medical student interested in pathology residency and dermatopathology fellowship
Hello all and thanks for taking the time to read this: I am currently a first year medical student attending medical school outside of the United States. A little background on me: I am an American citizen and I earned my bachelors degree from an American institution. I have also earned three separate masters degrees all at American institutions. The first was a masters in public health, the second was a masters in dermatological sciences, and the third was a masters of health... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

CertLink question- how many questions do you get?
OK, I gotta say overall I like CertLink and I REALLY like not going to Tampa, and not just because it is an armpit, for recertification exams. But as I log in for my quarterly assessments, I am reminded that I am continuously getting different numbers of questions every time. The number ranges from 15-25 or so, and I am wondering why this is. Does anyone know? You also need to design an assessment every few quarters, as I just had to. But I swear it wasn't even a year ago when I last... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Path residents doubling as med techs
This from the CAP caught my eye… Slippery slope in my opinion. But it may be better than CP programs that just have residents read or cover AP in some way Clinical pathology selected abstracts - CAP TODAY September 2022—Clinical laboratory workforce shortages are an issue, in large part because it is difficult to find qualified testing personnel. Pathology residents present a solution to this problem because MD and DO residents who have current training certificates or medical licenses and who... www.captodayonline.com (Sou...
