Utility of Applying Pressure Dressing Following Parotidectomy Compared to Conventional Dressing: A Benefit or Not?
Post-parotidectomy wound dressing techniques lack of robust evidence, creating variation in practice. The choice between conventional and pressure dressing is typically based on expert opinions and individual preferences and the anticipated benefits of reduced drainage and shorter drain retention in pressure dressing hasn ’t demonstrate yet. An ultrasound-based ensemble machine learning model for the preoperative classification of pleomorphic adenoma and Warthin tumor in the parotid gland
ConclusionsThe USEML model, incorporating clinical factors, ultrasound factors, and radiomic features, demonstrated efficient performance in distinguishing PMA from WT in the parotid gland.Clinical relevance statementThis study developed a machine learning model for preoperative diagnosis of pleomorphic adenoma and Warthin tumor in the parotid gland based on clinical, ultrasound, and radiomic features. Furthermore, it outperformed physicians in an external validation dataset, indicating its potential for clinical application.Key Points•Differentiating pleomorphic adenoma (PMA) and Warthin tumor (WT) affects management de...

“Unraveling the Tapestry”: A Retrospective Exploration of Recurrent Parotid Pleomorphic Adenoma Cases
AbstractThe standard surgical procedure for treating the parotid gland ’s recurrent pleomorphic adenoma (RPA) is parotidectomy with facial nerve preservation (FN). Treatment of RPA remains challenging since controversies occur regarding recurrence, degree of revision surgery, postoperative radiation, and difficulty in conserving the FN. A retrospective review of pati ent’s medical records treated for benign parotid neoplasms was conducted between 2017 and 2022 to identify individuals who underwent surgery for RPA. Demographic information, surgical intervention details, pre-and postoperative facial nerve function, histo...

Danish translation and validation of the Parotidectomy Outcome Inventory 8
CONCLUSIONS: We have translated and validated the Danish version of the POI-8, finding acceptable levels of the weighted kappa coefficient and Cronbach's alpha. We suggest the systematic use of PROMs in Danish healthcare and specifically in parotidectomy for benign neoplasms.FUNDING: No funding.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Not relevant.PMID:38533879 | DOI:10.61409/A10230633 (Source: Danish Medical Journal)
