Pseudoaneurysm: Cause of Unusual Postoperative Bleed in Head and Neck
AbstractAlthough, instances of postoperative bleeding in ENT surgery are infrequent, sometimes they can be dreadful for both patient& surgeon. Here we are reporting 2 cases of postoperative bleeding that we encountered recently. (1) Superficial temporal artery aneurysmal bleed- post parotidectomy (2) Left superior thyroid artery aneurysmal bleed- post tracheostomy. Intrapulmonary Metastasis from Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of the External Auditory Canal: A Case Report
We report a patient with advanced lung metastases from adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the EAC, which is difficult to diagnose. Under general anesthesia, lengthened right temporal bone resection, parotidectomy, facial nerve resection, cervical lymph node dissection (I-III), partial mandibular resection, tumor resection in the inferior temporal fossa and lateral femoral flap repair were performed, followed by regular radiotherapy and chemotherapy. During 2 years of postsurgical follow-up, there was no recurrence. The combination of early detection, resection, postoperative radiotherapy, and chemotherapy can result in a go...

Risk factors for sialocele after parotidectomy: Does tumor size really matter?
Sialocele that develops after parotid surgery often prolongs the treatment period and stresses both the surgeon and patient. The extent of surgery and tumor size are known to be associated with sialocele occurrence. We investigated the incidence of post-parotidectomy sialocele and the associated risk factors, with a focus on tumor size. (Source: Auris, Nasus, Larynx)

Centripetal Versus Centrifugal Facial Nerve Dissection in Superficial Parotidectomy: Comparison of the Two Methods at a Tertiary Care Center
Conclusion: The operative time and post-operative complications were both comparable betwe en AFND and RFND, implying both techniques can be used by surgeons depending on the individual cases. (Source: Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery)

Posttherapeutic quality of life after treatment of salivary gland cancer
CONCLUSION: By assessing quality of life using standardized questionnaire instruments, disease and treatment consequences can be objectified. Thus, the need for supportive measures, e.g., for rehabilitation in facial nerve palsy, can be identified more reliably.PMID:36826483 | DOI:10.1007/s00106-023-01286-x (Source: HNO)

Adjuvant Radiotherapy in Node-Negative Salivary Malignancies of the Parotid Gland: A Multi-institutional Analysis
CONCLUSION: ART should be strongly recommended for patients with node-negative parotid gland cancer with high-grade histology in terms of disease control and survival. In patients with low-to-intermediate-grade disease, those with high T stage and incomplete resection margin benefit with ART.PMID:36813174 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2023.109554 (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology : journal of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology)

A Rare Case of Muco-epidermoid Carcinoma Parotid in a 6-Year-Old Girl and Review of Literature
AbstractMucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is the commonest malignant salivary gland tumor affecting the parotid gland in adults and children. In children and adolescents, there is a peak incidence in the second decade. We came across a 6-year-old girl with intermediate-grade MEC parotid gland, which is very unusual below 10 years of age. A global literature search revealed only 3 other similar cases in children below 10 years of age. She presented with a 2-year history of left parotid gradually increasing hard swelling involving the overlying skin and underlying sternocleidomastoid muscle which was confirmed on a contrast-enh...

Huge Recurrent Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma of Parotid - a Rare Presentation
We reported a case of 85 years old female patient, who presented to the department of Surgical Oncology, Srinivasan Medical College and Hospital, Trichy, with history of right parotid swellin g for past 25 years, who had undergone Superficial parotidectomy 10 years back, followed by recurrence of tumor with huge increase in size, around 20 cm in greatest dimension. Right Completion Radical Parotidectomy with Modified Radical neck dissection type 1 with Cervical Rotation Flap cover was d one and histopathological examination of the surgical specimen confirmed as high grade Mucoepidermoid carcinoma. Following surgery, the p...

Parotid gland masses: outcomes in the pediatric age group
CONCLUSIONS: Parotidectomy is the backbone treatment for benign and malignant pediatric parotid tumors. Neck nodal dissection should be considered after preoperative FNAC of suspicious nodes. Adjuvant radiotherapy is considered only in high-risk tumors. Preoperative FNAC of parotid masses and clinically suspicious lymph nodes is highly recommended.PMID:36740629 | DOI:10.1186/s43046-023-00161-8 (Source: J Egypt Natl Canc In...)
