A study of factors affecting pass rates of level 5 written assessments for undergraduate adult nursing students
DISCUSSION: Age, cross-medium engagement and preparation were all shown to have an impact on marks. These findings can influence how higher education institutions drive and monitor engagement, as this study suggests that all parts of a blended learning approach are equally important.PMID:38512784 | DOI:10.12968/bjon.2024.33.6.292 (Source: British Journal of Nursing)

Ophthalmologic Findings in a Premature Infant leading to a Zika Diagnosis during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Case Report
We report on the first case of congenital Zika syndrome to be identified during the COVID-19 pandemic in Puerto Rico. The Zika virus (ZIKV) infection was first seen in Puerto Rico in December 2015. It is a flavivirus with vertical transmission, spreading from infected mothers to their fetuses and having a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations, of which microcephaly is the most worrisome. In Puerto Rico, routine ZIKV screening during pregnancy was implemented in October 2016. However, this practice has become less frequent over time. Nevertheless, the transmission of ZIKV continues, so it is important to ensure routine ...

Surveillance for Coccidioidomycosis, Histoplasmosis, and Blastomycosis During the COVID-19 Pandemic - United States, 2019-2021
MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep. 2024 Mar 21;73(11):239-244. doi: 10.15585/mmwr.mm7311a2.ABSTRACTCoccidioidomycosis, histoplasmosis, and blastomycosis are lower respiratory tract fungal infections whose signs and symptoms can resemble those of other respiratory illnesses, including pneumonia caused by bacterial or viral etiologies; this overlap in clinical presentation might lead to missed or delayed diagnoses. The causative fungi live in the environment, often in soil or plant matter. To describe the epidemiologic characteristics of cases of coccidioidomycosis, histoplasmosis, and blastomycosis during the COVID-19 pandemic, CDC...

Exploring the personal stroke and rehabilitation experiences of older adults with chronic stroke during the COVID-19 pandemic: a qualitative descriptive study
CONCLUSIONS: One unique finding was that the participants used this study as an opportunity to teach and advocate for future stroke survivors which is not often seen in qualitative stroke rehabilitation research. Future stroke research should place emphasis on both the positive and negative experiences of this population.PMID:38511399 | DOI:10.1080/17482631.2024.2331431 (Source: International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being)
