Midwest gyn onc referral
Does anyone have any recommendations for strong Midwest gyn onc department, or physician for referral? Trying to help young woman who thought she was undergoing removal of a teratoma that was found to have what appears to be ovarian cancer adherent to bowel, abdominal wall, etc. (Tumor markers were not run as of yet). Surgery was aborted in favor of referral to outside center. She is considering Mayo, places in Chicago, Cleveland, IU, etc. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Biotech to med school? Questions about relevance of work and timelines
Hi all, I finished undergrad as an Ecology major in 2017 with a 3.67 GPA. Since then, I’ve been working in biotech and have made my way up from tech to a scientist position (with one year off, 6 months as a caregiver for my mom who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and 6 months with americorps doing childrens literacy work). I’m now at an infectious disease company. I’ve worked in developing therapeutics and am now in diagnostics, mostly in R&D but some production support - I love it... how can I become an ovarian cancer doc?
Hi, I'm a 2nd-year hem/onc fellow. I recently got interested in specializing in ovarian cancer. In my institution, gyn onc docs are all gynecologists and I haven't seen any med onc doc seeing gyn onc patients. How should I approach this? Can I see gyn onc patients as a med onc doc? I am working with a gynecologist on a research project and I am thinking about working in his clinic from January. I haven't asked my PD if this is OK yet (because his clinic is not among the choices that we are... how can I become an ovarian cancer doc? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

RN still thinking about medical school...
Hi all, I am a 31 yo female (married, no kids) RN. I’ve been working as a nurse in the ED for the past 6 years. Prior to that, I had a biology degree (graduated with a 3.8) and had plans to go to medical school. Took the mcat in 2011 and got a 31. In the middle of applying to school, my mom died of ovarian cancer. My dad struggled with mental health issues and I decided to go to nursing school to get a marketable degree quickly so that I could help my family out. it’s been so long but I... BRCA1/2 mutation positive, doesnt want surgery
Have you guys ever had a patient in their 40s, rich family history of breast and ovarian cancer, tested positive for the mutation, but does not want any prophylactic surgery. How would you proceed with surveillance? Obviously routine mammography is needed. Would this be an indication for routine pelvic ultrasound (q 1 year)? I read somewhere that sometimes CA 125 is checked as well? (Though i thought tumor markers were more relevant in post diagnosis and prognostic situations) (Source: Student Doctor Network)
