Prospective observational study of baloxavir marboxil in adults and adolescents with uncomplicated influenza from China
ConclusionIn the clinical setting, baloxavir demonstrated comparable clinical benefits to oseltamivir, establishing its efficacy as an effective antiviral therapy for Chinese patients with influenza. (Source: Frontiers in Microbiology)

Error in Size of Total Population
In the Original Investigation titled “Evaluation of Oseltamivir Used to Prevent Hospitalization in Outpatients With Influenza: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis,” published online on June 12, 2023, the total number of patients included in the 15 trials was 6166, not 6295. Consequently, multiple numbers needed to be adjusted by a few decimal points in the Abstract, text, Figure 2, and the eFigures in Supplement 1. None of these corrections affected the overall study findings, interpretations, or conclusions. The article was corrected online. (Source: JAMA Internal Medicine)

Corrections to Meta-Analysis of Oseltamivir to Prevent Hospitalization
To the Editor On behalf of my coauthors and myself, I write to explain the correction of our Original Investigation, “Evaluation of Oseltamivir Used to Prevent Hospitalization in Outpatients With Influenza: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis,” published online first on June 12, 2023, in JAMA Internal Medicine. This systematic review and meta-analysis included data from 15 randomized clinical trials and accu rately concluded that oseltamivir was not associated with reduced risk of first hospitalization compared with placebo or standard of care. Oseltamivir May or May Not Reduce Hospitalizations
To the Editor Hanula et al reported findings of a systematic review and meta-analysis that included 15 randomized clinical trials (RCTs) of oseltamivir treatment for outpatients with influenza (age ≥12 years). The authors found no association between oseltamivir treatment of laboratory-confirmed influenza and risk of hospitalization among 6295 total participants or in subanalyses of older participants (mean age, ≥65 years; relative risk [RR], 0.99; 95% CI, 0.19-5.13) or participants with h igh-risk comorbidities (RR, 0.90; 95% CI, 0.37-2.17). Oseltamivir May or May Not Reduce Hospitalizations
To the Editor We read with great interest the work by Hanula and colleagues evaluating the association between oseltamivir and hospitalization. The authors performed a meta-analysis of 15 randomized clinical trials and concluded that “…oseltamivir was not associated with a reduced risk of hospitalization but was associated with increased gastrointestinal adverse events. To justify continued use for this purpose, an adequately powered trial in a suitably high-risk population is justified.” We consider a few caveats to be wo rth discussing. Oseltamivir May or May Not Reduce Hospitalizations —Reply
In Reply We thank the authors of 2 letters who sent in reflections on our systematic review and meta-analysis of oseltamivir to prevent hospitalization. Both submissions highlighted 2 key concepts that emerge from the finding that oseltamivir was not associated with reduced hospitalizations. (Source: JAMA Internal Medicine)

An Observational Study on the Pharmacokinetics of Oseltamivir in Lactating Influenza Patients
Clin Pharmacol Ther. 2023 Nov 17. doi: 10.1002/cpt.3107. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInfluenza infection may lead to serious complications in the postpartum period, therefore, oseltamivir treatment in these patients and their breastfed infants is of great importance. However, the pharmacokinetics of oseltamivir in postpartum lactating women with acute influenza infection, and the consequent infant exposure to oseltamivir are still unknown, and these data would help in assessing risk and the need for dose adjustment in breastfed infants. Six lactating women with influenza-like symptoms, at a standard dose of 75 mg oral os...

Viruses, Vol. 15, Pages 2264: Prophylactic Treatment with Baloxavir Protects Mice from Lethal Infection with Influenza A and B Viruses
be Takao Shishido Influenza remains a worldwide health concern. Antiviral drugs are considered as one of the useful options for its prevention as a complementary measure to vaccination. Baloxavir acid selectively inhibits the cap-dependent endonuclease of influenza viruses and exhibits marked viral titre reduction in patients. Here, we describe the prophylactic potency of baloxavir acid against lethal infection with influenza A and B viruses in mice. BALB/c mice were subcutaneously administered once with baloxavir acid suspension, or orally administered once daily for 10 days with oseltamivir phosphate solution at hu...
