What's the ER doc's role in epidemiology?
Have any of y'all thought about this? For example, if someone comes into the ED with flu like symptoms, in the middle of flu season, and is an otherwise young and healthy individuals, I see no utility in testing for the flu (I'm also not a fan of Tamiflu for non-high risk populations), so it's usually just r/o something like a pneumonia, reassurance, doctor's note, and OTC symptom control. But with these periodic outbreaks of things like SARS, MERS, this novel corona virus, or even failed... What's the ER doc's role in epidemiology? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Xofluza vs. Tamiflu
My patients don't necessarily believe in the flu shot but they definitely want treatment once the fever and myalgias start. Has anyone had any experience prescribing/taking Xofluza? I've read that it's more expensive but slightly more efficacious than Tamiflu. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Oseltamivir 6mg/ml shortage
For CVS particularly, Cardinal is currently OOS/BO on generic Tamiflu suspension. There is a dramatic increase in demand this week. I remember the last time it was this bad and it went on short supply and we were able to compound. When does a need for med outweigh the law about compounding commercially available drug? Is anyone compounding? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
