Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 6225: Vasorelaxant Activity of Salvia hispanica L.: Involvement of the Nitric Oxide Pathway in Its Pharmacological Mechanism
Estrada-Soto Salvia hispanica L., commonly known as chía, and its seeds have been used since ancient times to prepare different beverages. Due to its nutritional content, it is considered a dietary ingredient and has been reported with many health benefits. Chia seed components are helpful in cardiovascular disease (CVD) by reducing blood pressure, platelet aggregation, cholesterol, and oxidation. Still, its vasodilator effects on the vascular system were not reported yet. The hexanic (HESh), dichloromethanic (DESh), and methanolic (MESh) extracts obtained from chía seeds were evaluated o...

Functional and Histological Changes in Umbilical Artery and Myometrium Isolated from IUGR Complicated Pregnancies
Conclusions: The pathogenesis of IUGR might be associated with the impairment in the functional responses of L-type Ca2+ channels and BKCa channels in HUA smooth muscle. The increased staining of myometrium and UC with HIF-1α in IUGR may indicate apoptosis, histological damage, and impaired fetal growth.PMID:37578058 | DOI:10.1080/15513815.2023.2245892 (Source: Fetal and Pediatric Pathology)

Pulmonary Microcirculation in Experimental Model of Pulmonary Thromboembolism after Pretreatment with Chloroquine
Changes of pulmonary microcirculation in response to pulmonary artery embolization after pretreatment with chloroquine were studied on the model of isolated perfused rabbit lungs. The increase in the pulmonary vascular resistance and pre- and postcapillary resistance was less pronounced than after pulmonary thromboembolism after pretreatment with mibefradil (T-type Ca2+ channels blocker) or nifedipine (L-type Ca2+ channels blocker). The shifts of capillary filtration coefficient correlated with changes in the precapillary resistance. When modeling pulmonary thromboembolism after pretreatment with chloroquine combined with ...

Therapeutic improvements of nifedipine controlled-release tablets combined with sacubitril valsartan on patients with diabetic nephropathy complicated with hypertension
This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of nifedipine controlled-release tablets combined with sacubitril valsartan in diabetic nephropathy (DN) patients with hypertension. One hundred and twelve DN patients with hypertension were enrolled. They were randomly divided into the control group (treated with nifedipine controlled-release tablets combined with valsartan) and the observation group (treated with nifedipine controlled-release tablets combined with sacubitril valsartan). Renal function, endothelial function and inflammatory response were examined. After three-months treatment, the levels of clinical indexes (glyco...

Calcium handling coupled to the endothelin ET < sub > A < /sub > and ET < sub > B < /sub > receptor-mediated vasoconstriction in resistance arteries: Differential regulation by PI3K, PKC and RhoK
Eur J Pharmacol. 2023 Aug 2:175948. doi: 10.1016/j.ejphar.2023.175948. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAbnormal endothelin-1 (ET-1) activity is involved in the pathogenesis of vascular diseases such as essential and pulmonary arterial hypertension, coronary artery disease, and cerebrovascular disease, blockade of ET receptors having shown efficacy in clinical assays and experimental models of hypertension. Augmented Ca2+ influx and changes in Ca2+ sensitization associated with arterial vasoconstriction underlie increased systemic vascular resistance in hypertension. Since peripheral resistance arteries play a key role in blo...

Arrest of mouse preterm labor until term delivery by combination therapy with atosiban and mundulone, a natural product with tocolytic efficacy
In this study, we probed the tocolytic potential of these compounds using human myometrial samples and a mouse model of preterm birth. In a phenotypic assay, mundulone displayed greater efficacy, while MA showed greater potency and uterine-selectivity in the inhibition of intracellular-Ca2+. Cell viability assays revealed that MA was significantly less cytotoxic. Organ bath and vessel myography studies showed that only mundulone exerted inhibition of myometrial contractions and that neither compounds affected vasoreactivity of ductus arteriosus. A high-throughput combination screen identified that mundulone exhibits synerg...

Hypocalcemic tetany associated with simultaneous administration of cimetidine and nifedipine: a case report
ConclusionsSevere hypocalcemic tetany can occur with concomitant administration of cimetidine and nifedipine. Immediate treatment with calcium gluconate quickly reverses this adverse event. Concomitant administration of these drugs should be done with caution or be avoided if possible. (Source: Journal of Medical Case Reports)
