Microbusinesses Performed $ 6.1 Billion of R & D in the United States in 2021
This InfoBrief presents research and development ( R&D ) data on microbusinesses, defined as businesses with one to nine domestic employees. In 2021, microbusinesses in the United States reported a total of $ 8.1 billion in R&D expenditures, of which $ 7.3 billion ( 89 % ) was for domestic costs and $ 6.1 billion ( 75 % ) was performed by the microbusinesses themselves. Elementary and Secondary STEM Education
This report presents national trends in K – 12 student achievement in STEM and compares U.S. STEM achievement with that of other nations. The report shows that student achievement in mathematics, which had already plateaued for the past decade, has now regressed approximately 20 years during the COVID-19 pandemic. A pre-pandemic international assessment of mathematics and science in 2019 shows that eighth graders in the U.S ranked about in the middle of education systems in countries with advanced economies. U.S. Nonprofits' R & D Performance Totaled $ 27 Billion in FY 2021

Business R & D Performance in the United States Tops $ 600 Billion in 2021
Businesses continued to increase their research and development performance in 2021, spending $ 602 billion on R&D in the United States, a 12.1 % increase from 2020. Research Doctorate Conferrals Rebound, Leading to Record Number of U.S. Doctorate Recipients in 2022
New data from the Survey of Earned Doctorates ( SED ) show an increase in doctoral degree awards for the 2022 academic year and the highest number of research doctorates ever conferred in a single academic year. This was preceded by declines in doctorate conferrals from spring 2020 through spring 2021 after the shutdown of most colleges and universities at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
