Reflections on Big Data in Healthcare: Exploring Emerging Roles
In conclusion, librarians can become experts in the field of data science. There are several mechanisms that are already in place to assist us with learning these skill sets. Both NLM and MLA have a vast number of opportunities to learn more about data science and to participate in data science initiatives. As we create partnerships and collaborations, we will become more knowledgeable about the needs of our researchers. In addition, librarians must remember that we are life-long learning and we welcome a challenge.

Final funding tip – Follow directions for submission
By now, you likely have decided whether or not to apply for funding from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Middle Atlantic Region. As you put the final touches on your proposal, make sure you follow the directions for submission. You do not want all of your hard work to go to waste because you sent your application late or to the wrong email address.
Submission instructions and due dates are included in all of the Requests for Proposals.

The National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) is offering stipends of up to $500 to support travel and lodging to attend the Health Information for Public Librarians Symposium taking place at this year’s Medical Library Association Annual Meeting in Atlanta, GA. Funding Tip 7 – Get letters of support
Like most funding agencies, the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Middle Atlantic Region, loves partnerships. As you think about applying for funding, make sure you have letters of support/commitment from key partners.
You should include letters of support from:
Your administration, stating support for PI & project staff to complete the project within the designated timeframe
The administration of all partner organizations involved in, or targeted in the project
If technology is being purchased, include a letter of commitment from the person in charge of supporting technology at your institution
