Budget insufficient to meet rising pressures in general practice, says NI report
The health budget in Northern Ireland'does not provide sufficient funding' to meet current demand, according to a new progress report by the country's Department of Health.  The report had provided an update on the progress of delivering the 10-year plan‘Delivering Together’ published in 2016, which aimed to radically overhaul health and social care services in Northern Ireland.  It evaluated that the budget cannot meet the rising pressures across general practice and areas of secondary care. Hide related content:  Show related contentread more (Source: Management in Practice)

Trainee GP takes on clinical director role within primary care network

Practices'hurriedly' trying to meet network deadline

More than twice as many male practice managers in the UK earn over£50,000 a year compared to their female counterparts, a study has revealed. The research, carried out by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2017 and funded by the Health Foundation, found that 30% of male practice managers earn over£50,000 but only 14% of female practice managers are in the same salary range. Hospital foundation trust to take over three practices
An NHS foundation trust in Birmingham has taken over two practices and will soon run another from June.  Great Bridge Health Centre and Lyndon Health Centre are now run by Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, in conjunction with Your Health Partnership, which runs more than 50 surgeries in the Midlands and Shropshire.  The takeover, which took place on 1 May, came after the previous private provider, Malling Health, chose not to rebid for the APMS contract according to the Local Medical Committee (LMC). Hide related content:  Show related contentread more (Source: Management in Practice)

Practice receptionists more likely to receive negative patient feedback due to ‘role bias’

Telephone-first approach not a solution to GP workload, says study
The telephone-first approach is not a solution to patient demand and GP workload, according to a new study.  The method, whereby patients booking a GP appointment are initally phoned back on the same day by a GP, increases workload and does not suit all patients, the research found.  Researchers reported that although the average number of face-to-face consultations decreased by 38%, there was a 12-fold increase in telephone consultations and an estimated 8% increase in overall time GPs spent consulting. Hide related content:  Show related contentread more (Source: Management in Practice)

' Vicious cycle' of workload pressures facing GPs in deprived areas

Revealed: nearly half of practice managers have been in the job more than a decade
Practice managers are remaining in their jobs for long periods of time, despite the growing demands of the role, a new study has found. £3.6m portrait hanging in practice waiting room aims to improve access to art
