GP surgeries report increase in number of homeless patients, survey finds
GP practices have dealt with an increasingly growing number of homeless patients over the last five years, a BMA survey has found.  Over a quarter of the 178 GPs who responded to a BMA survey said a larger number of homeless patients visited their practice in the last five years.  Some of the respondents (18%) said their practice had to dedicate greater time and resources to homeless patients in comparison to five years ago. Hide related content:  Show related contentread more (Source: Management in Practice)

Patients placed on special allocation scheme drops by more than 300 in one year, figures show
More than 1,600 patients were removed from GP practice lists in England in 2018 to be placed on the Special Allocation Scheme (SAS), a health minister has said.  In a written answer to Parliament, published on 15 January, health minister Steve Brine said that as of November 2018, 1,686 patients were removed from GP practice lists and placed on SAS.  Fewer patients were removed from GP practice lists in 2018 than in 2017, when 2,055 individuals were removed from their practice list. Hide related content:  Show related contentread more (Source: Management in Practice)

NHS reimburses Cornish practices following data transfer mishap
GP practices in Cornwall and in the Isles of Scilly will be reimbursed£2.50 per child after checking the immunisation status of 1,200 children following an individual’s error, NHS England has said.  According to NHS England, the system recall functionality was‘inadvertently switched off’ following the passage of records between two different providers of Child Health Information Service (CHIS) systems, meaning some children could have not been recalled for their immunisation appointments. Hide related content:  Show related contentread more (Source: Management in Practice)

CCG bans patients from leaving hospital-managed GP practice amid exodus
GP patients in Gosport have been banned from switching surgeries after a dramatic exodus of patients from a hospital-managed GP practice left others overwhelmed.  The Hampshire town has seen 2,100 patients transfer to different practices after problems at the four-practice Willow Group, managed by Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust.  NHS Fareham and Gosport CCG, which took the decision, said the three-month restriction will remain in place until 31 March. Hide related content:  Show related contentread more (Source: Management in Practice)

CCGs told they must set up primary care networks by end of June

Patients highlight confidentiality issues at GP practices, survey finds
