Dec. 15—Combining Whatcom County’s two 911 dispatch centers, whose operators separately send law-enforcement officers or firefighters to calls for service, is back on the County Council’s agenda.

NJ Firehouse Shuts Down Amid COVID-19 Exposures at Holiday Gathering
According to a report from NJ.com, operations at Fire Station No. 2 in Verona, New Jersey, have been “temporarily suspended” after several members were exposed to COVID-19 during an unauthorized gathering at station, said township manager Matthew Cavallo.
Cavallo’s statement did not say when the party was held or how many people attended. He was not immediately available for comment Tuesday morning.
Cavallo also stated that every exposed member is required to quarantine pursuant to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state health department guidelines.

U.S. Vaccinations Ramp Up as Second COVID-19 Shot Nears

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hundreds more U.S. hospitals are set to begin vaccinating their workers Tuesday as federal regulators issued a positive review of a second COVID-19 vaccine shot needed to boost the nation’s largest vaccination campaign.
The Food and Drug Administration said in documents posted online that its initial review confirmed the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine developed by Moderna and the National Institutes of Health, bringing the shot to the cusp of U.S. authorization.

While this case review describes an unusual approach to a medical retrieval, remote health care providers in developing nations face major clinical, ethical and legal challenges such as these described. The challenges of prehospital care are dynamic, yet in the remote context they are even more so. In these situations, a careful assessment of risk verses reward is paramount. Fire trucks and ambulances at Prince George Fire and EMS in Virginia needed to be drained after the wrong type of fuel was put in their tanks.
PRINCE GEORGE, Va. – A fuel mix-up at Prince George Fire and EMS made fire and EMS vehicles not drivable for the day, according to reports.
The Progress-Index reports it happened Monday when the company contracted to fuel up the vehicles inadvertently put diesel fuel into gasoline tanks and gasoline into diesel tanks.
The county was left scrambling to get units back into service, according to the report.
