The mRNA alphabet: Identification of a new mechanism to cancer metastasis
(Universit é libre de Bruxelles) Led by Fran ç ois Fuks and Jana Jeschke, the Laboratory of Cancer Epigenetics at ULB and the ULBCancer Research Center (U-CRC) have discovered that one of the mRNA letters, m6A, plays a key role inthe deadly process of cancer metastasis. Published in the Nature Cancer journal, their discovery will helpto limit cancer spread and ultimately improve the survival of cancer patients. (Source: EurekAlert! - Cancer)

Scientists uncover new mechanism that enables development of cancer
(UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center) Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill have uncovered a mechanism that activates specific genes, leading to the development of cancers. They showed that a mutation that fuses two unrelated genes can promote a process similar to that observed when oil and water are mixed but do not blend together. The process, called liquid-liquid phase separation, can promote cancers such as acute leukemias. (Source: EurekAlert! - Cancer)

New research uncovers how cancers with common mutation develop resistance to targeted drugs
(Dana-Farber Cancer Institute) A new study by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute researchers has given scientists their first look at the genomic landscape of tumors that have grown resistant to drugs targeting the abnormal KRASG12C protein. Their work shows that, far from adopting a common route to becoming resistant, the cells take a strikingly diverse set of avenues, often several at a time. The findings, reported online today in the New England Journal of Medicine, underscore the need for new drugs that inhibit KRAS differently than current agents do. (Source: EurekAlert! - Cancer)
