Failures to launch preclude response inhibition
Trends Cogn Sci. 2024 Mar 21:S1364-6613(24)00054-8. doi: 10.1016/j.tics.2024.03.001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNeural analyses of response inhibition rely on separating trials with and without a behavioral response. Can researchers be sure the absence of a behavioral outcome equates to the presence of inhibitory control? We emphasize advancing response inhibition research by utilizing peripheral measures of response progress to define behavioral stopping contrasts.PMID:38519325 | DOI:10.1016/j.tics.2024.03.001 (Source: Trends Cogn Sci)

Activation of STING signaling aggravates chronic alcohol exposure-induced cognitive impairment by increasing neuroinflammation and mitochondrial apoptosis
CONCLUSION: Activation of STING signaling played an essential role in alcohol-induced inflammation and mitochondrial apoptosis in the mPFC. Recognizing Alzheimer's disease from perspective of oligodendrocytes: Phenomena or pathogenesis?
CONCLUSIONS: We believe that OL dysfunction is one important pathogenesis of AD. Factors regulating OLs might be biomarkers for early diagnosis and agents stimulating OLs warrant the development of anti-AD drugs.PMID:38516808 | PMC:PMC10958408 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14688 (Source: CNS Neuroscience and Therapeutics)

Efficacy and safety of venlafaxine hydrochloride combined with tandospirone citrate for patients with vascular depression accompanied by somatic symptoms: An open-labeled randomized control trial
CONCLUSION: The combined therapy rapidly acts on VaDep comorbid with anxiety and somatic symptoms and significantly alleviates the anxiety and somatic symptoms. The plasma levels of 5-HT may serve as potential objective candidates in evaluating VaDep severity and the efficacy of the undertaken treatment regimen.PMID:38514905 | PMC:PMC10957720 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14650 (Source: CNS Neuroscience and Therapeutics)

Exploring tribology and material contact science in spine surgery: implications for implant design
J Neurosurg Spine. 2024 Mar 22:1-10. doi: 10.3171/2024.1.SPINE231047. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTribology, an interdisciplinary field concerned with the science of interactions between surfaces in contact and their relative motion, plays a well-established role in the design of orthopedic implants, such as knee and hip replacements. However, its applications in spine surgery have received comparatively less attention in the literature. Understanding tribology is pivotal in elucidating the intricate interactions between metal, polymer, and ceramic components, as well as their interplay with the native human bone. Numero...

Effects of short foot training on foot posture in patients with flatfeet: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: This systematic review and meta-analysis showed that short foot exercises need a larger sample size to find their effect on improving flat feet; the duration of the intervention is a factor. As most studies are currently unclear whether the participants were patients with flat feet or asymptomatic individuals with flat feet the disease syndrome in patients with flatfoot may also be a factor.PMID:38517769 | DOI:10.3233/BMR-230226 (Source: Journal of Back and Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation)

Sound and postural control during stance tasks in abnormal subjective haptic vertical
CONCLUSIONS: This study shows no influence of applied auditory stimulation on posture in participants with abnormal SHV in a reverberant room, but an adverse effect on balance during difficult tasks in the soundproofed room. Noise possibly masked auditory information that was helpful in improving posture in the quiet condition. Futhermore, noise might have distracted participants from maintaining balance.PMID:38517829 | DOI:10.3233/VES-230079 (Source: Journal of Vestibular Research: Equilibrium and Orientation)
