Music therapy has been around for many years and is recognized as a tool for helping people with emotional and behavioral issues such as depression or ADHD. While the usual instruments used include the drums, cymbals and other instruments that do not require too much instruction, the guitar is also being used as an option. Learning to play guitar requires some finger dexterity and this comes with limitations as to who may learn to play guitar – Robo-Tar has taken this obstacle out of the equation. (Wiley) A new study has found that adolescents and young adults undergoing cancer treatment gain coping skills and resilience-related outcomes when they participate in a therapeutic music process that includes writing song lyrics and producing videos. Published early online in Cancer, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society, the findings indicate that such music therapy interventions can provide essential psychosocial support to help young patients positively adjust to cancer.
