Michel Treisman obituary
My father, Michel Treisman, who has died aged 93, was a polymath with a store of knowledge and wise advice for every eventuality. He spent most of his career as a lecturer and researcher at Oxford University, where his work on experimental psychology focused primarily on our perception of time.He was best known for proposing a model for the brain ’s internal clock and devising methods to measure the rate at which it ticks. However, his interests extended to other fields, including evolutionary biology. For instance, he proposed a novel explanation for motion sickness: he suggested that, when you’re riding in a car, the...

What health evidence can we trust when we need it most?
Dr Jenny McSharry, Health Psychologist and lecturer in the School of Psychology at the University of Galway, explains what systematic reviews are and why they are a particularly trustworthy source of health evidence.  Dr Jenny Mc Sharry was supported by an Evidence Synthesis Ireland Writing Mentorship (Grant code ESI-2021-001) and this blog post was originally  posted onEvidently Cochrane. When we are diagnosed with a new condition, experience a worrying symptom or need to make a health decision for ourselves or our loved ones, it can be hard to know where to turn. How often have we found ourselves unable to sleep, alone ...

I Am Frankly Inspired by the Becoming Na'vi Girlie
Something I did not consider as I hovered on the brink of motion sickness during Avatar: The Way of Water is how cool it would be to become a Na’vi. That, of course, is the plot of the first Avatar film, in which Jake Sully learns just how cool it would be to be nine feet tall and blue. By the end…#contact #jakesully #navi #twitter #wayofwater #jamescameron #letterboxd #sullys #avatar #photoshop (Source: Reuters: Health)

4 words drivers dread: 'Ugh, I feel sick'
Whether your trip is around town or across the country, four words most drivers dread hearing moaned from the backseat are, "Ugh, I feel sick." Carsickness, also known as motion sickness, isn't associated with just cars. It also strikes on buses, boats, trains, airplanes and amusement park rides. Anyone who's ever been plagued with motion sickness recognizes the queasy dizziness that can make travel miserable. Causes of motion sickness Motion sickness starts deep in the… (Source: News from Mayo Clinic)

Inspiration4 Crew Safely Splashes Down Off Florida Coast
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — Four space tourists safely ended their trailblazing trip to orbit Saturday with a splashdown in the Atlantic off the Florida coast. Their SpaceX capsule parachuted into the ocean just before sunset, not far from where their chartered flight began three days earlier. The all-amateur crew was the first to circle the world without a professional astronaut. The billionaire who paid undisclosed millions for the trip and his three guests wanted to show that ordinary people could blast into orbit by themselves, and SpaceX founder Elon Musk took them on as the company’s first rocket-riding touris...
