Inflammatory breast cancer: Epidemiologic data and therapeutic results
In this study, we reviewed the literature using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database compared to other published series. We observed that in the high incidence areas (North of Africa) when compared to "classical" breast cancer, IBC was associated to younger age (less than 50 years) with rapid evolution of signs and symptoms (in less than 3 up to 6 months), and more aggressive clinical and histopathological-molecular parameters, due to the predominance of triple-negative and HER2+ subtypes in around 60% of cases. An epidemiologic trend was observed in both high and low incidence areas since the ei...

Analysis of the bacterial diversity in Moroccan Jben cheese using TTGE, DGGE, and 16S rRNA sequencing
AbstractThis research investigated the physicochemical, microbiological, and bacterial diversity of Jben cheese, a popular artisanal variety in Morocco. The bacterial diversity was explored using culture-independent methods, including temporal temperature gel electrophoresis (TTGE), denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE), and high-throughput sequencing (HTS). Significant intra-sample differences were observed for most physicochemical parameters within each milk type, while inter-sample differences occurred between cow and goat cheeses for dry matter and ash. Jben cheese exhibited distinct characteristics, with low ...

Solar-powered single-stage distillation and complex conductivity analysis for sustainable domestic wastewater treatment
This study investigates the efficacy of a solar-powered single-stage distillation system for treating domestic wastewater, supplemented with complex conductivity analysis. Domestic wastewater samples were collected from a municipal manhole in El Jadida, Morocco, over a 24-h period. The single-stage distillation system, designed for domestic wastewater treatment, utilizes heat to vaporize the wastewater, followed by condensation to produce pure liquid water. The system demonstrated increased distilled water production with rising temperatures, with domestic wastewater outperforming seawater as a feed water source. Physical ...

The essential oil composition of < em > Phlomis bovei < /em > subsp. maroccana Maire, an endemic species of Morocco
Nat Prod Res. 2024 Apr 3:1-6. doi: 10.1080/14786419.2024.2334881. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhlomis L. is a genus belonging to the Lamiaceae family, distributed in Macaronesia, the Mediterranean basin, Northeast Africa, Central Asia, and Western Himalaya. Plants of this genus are used against various diseases in the ethno-medicine of several countries and some of them are also utilised for culinary purposes. In the present study, the essential oil chemical composition of the aerial parts of Phlomis bovei subsp. maroccana Maire, an endemic species of Morocco, was analysed by GC-MS. No previous paper has been previously ...

Psychometric properties of the cannabis abuse screening test (CAST) in a sample of Moroccans with cannabis use
CONCLUSION: The reliability, convergent validity, and discriminant validity tests all demonstrated that the Moroccan version of the CAST performed well and can be considered a valid tool for screening of problematic cannabis use.PMID:38570799 | DOI:10.1186/s13722-024-00459-5 (Source: Addiction Science and Clinical Practice)

The prevalence of headache in the adult population of Morocco: a cross-sectional population-based study
ConclusionsWhile the 1-year prevalence of headache among adults in Morocco is similar to that of many other countries, migraine on the evidence here is at the upper end of the global range, but not outside it. H15  + and pMOH are very prevalent, contributing to the high one-day prevalence of headache. (Source: The Journal of Headache and Pain)

High plasma interleukin-6 level, but not IL-6 gene variants, as a predictive marker for the development of hepatocellular carcinoma in a Moroccan population
In this study, we assessed IL-6 levels and explored the correlation between the rs1800795 and rs1800797 variants of the IL-6 gene and the risk of developing HCC. We conducted a case-control study involving 314 participants. Among them, 157 were HCC patients (94 anti-HCV, 22 HBsAg and 41 metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease [MASLD]) and 157 controls. Genotyping for IL-6 rs1800795 and rs1800797 polymorphisms was performed using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Additionally, plasma IL-6 levels were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The IL-6 levels were notably higher in patients...

UHC in Morocco: a bottom-up estimation of public  hospitals' financing size based on a costing database
This study aims to build a national database of costs at all levels of public hospitals in Morocco and craft this database as a resource for further use in a strategic purchasing system. It also aims at estimating the funding gap and the budget that should be secured for public hospitals in Morocco to fully play their roles in the current ambitious reform.MethodA costing study was implemented in 39 hospitals in 12 regions of Morocco (10 provincial hospitals, 11 regional hospitals, and 18 teaching hospitals). Using the hospital costing approach, we adapted and validated nationally our methodology to generate a database of u...

Abomasal lesions found in postmortem examination of fattening Holstein-Friesian bulls from central Poland
This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of lesions found in the abomasum of Polish fattening Holstein-Friesian bulls. A total of 149 abomasa from adult bulls from two voivodeships of central Poland were inspected for pathologicalanatomic position (displacement, volvulus), impaction, mucosal membrane lesions (inflammation, hyperplasia), and signs of parasite infestation(Moroccan leather, worm nodules) in one of the Polish abattoirs just after slaughter. Among all the examined males no lesions were observed in only 8 individuals. The most common findings were erosions (75.8%) and type 1 ulcerations (48.3%) of the body, p...
