Effects of prebiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics on the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer: Mexican consensus and recommendations
This article summarizes the current scientific evidence on the effects of supplementation with prebiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics on high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infections, precancerous lesions, and various stages of cervical cancer development and treatment while also examining the underlying molecular pathways involved. Our findings indicate that a higher dietary fiber intake is associated with a reduced risk of HPV infection, while certain probiotics have shown promising results in clearing HPV-related lesions. Additionally, certain strains of probiotics, prebiotics such as inulin and fructo-oligosaccharide...

Current status and challenges in timely detection of cervical cancer in Mexico: expert consensus
Cervical cancer is a significant public health problem in low- and middle-income countries, accounting for 85% of new cases worldwide. Due to poorly organized screening programs, cervical cancer is more likely to develop in vulnerable groups who do not initiate or rarely undergo screening. Cervical cytology and detecting high-risk human papillomavirus types are the recommended screening tools. Further, these strategies allow for accurately identifying women at a higher risk of cervical cancer and establishing screening times. New detection tools, such as novel biomarkers or automatic HPV detection in the vagina or urine, c...

The rescue of medical education crippled by the COVID-19 pandemic
CONCLUSIONS: Undoubtedly, the pandemic has caused damage to the teaching of two generations of medical students during 2020 and 2021, and we are still afraid that, in 2022, it will persist. Therefore, in our opinion, the medical education implemented by us is not ideal, but, at least, it constitutes a good palliative for the harm that the pandemic caused to medical education.PMID:38537221 | DOI:10.24875/ACM.22000225 (Source: Archivos de Cardiologia de Mexico)

Impact of the Mexican education system and age on basic knowledge about ischemic heart disease in the pre-COVID-19 era
CONCLUSIONS: Knowledge about IHD in general population is deficient and doesn't increase adequately neither with age nor academic studies. It is necessary to review our health education strategies.PMID:38537219 | DOI:10.24875/ACM.22000238 (Source: Archivos de Cardiologia de Mexico)

Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on cardiometabolic patients without SARS-CoV-2 infection in Latin America
CONCLUSION: Restrictive quarantine measures imposed by the different countries showed a positive correlation with medication discontinuation and a negative correlation with physical activity levels in patients analyzed. These findings characterize the impact of the consequences left by this pandemic. Undoubtedly, restrictive measures have been and will continue to have reverberating negative effects in most Latin-American countries.PMID:38537217 | DOI:10.24875/ACM.21000181 (Source: Archivos de Cardiologia de Mexico)

CONCLUSION: The proposed variants were not associated with cSCC risk in this Mexican population, but we recognize the need for analyzing larger population groups to elucidate the disease-causing role of rare variants.PMID:38534460 | DOI:10.3390/biology13030191 (Source: Cancer Control)

Review and analysis of the results of kidney transplantation programs in Mexico
CONCLUSIONS: In Mexico there is little information on the results of kidney transplant programs, and the information found shows great heterogeneity in said programs. Quality of life assessment and therapeutic adherence in Mexican patients with type 2 diabetes
ConclusionsIf the TA of patients with T2DM increases, the overall QoL as well as the DRQoL will improve. Hence, these variables must be considered as therapeutic targets in clinical practice. (Source: International Journal of Diabetes in Developing Countries)

Heat and desiccation tolerances predict bee abundance under climate change
Nature, Published online: 27 March 2024; doi:10.1038/s41586-024-07241-2A 16-year dataset of abundance patterns of a diverse assemblage of bees in New Mexico, USA predicts declines for many bee species and indicates that drought-tolerant taxa will prevail in a warming and drying climate. Single nucleotide polymorphisms of ANKK1, DDR4, and GRIN2B genes predict behavior in a prospective cohort of Mexican children and adolescents
This study explores the links between SNPs in candidate genes involved in central nervous system (CNS) physiology and their implications for the behavioral and emotional aspects in children and teenagers. A total of 590 participants, aged 7-15 years, from the Early Life Exposures In Mexico To Environmental Toxicants (ELEMENT) cohort study in Mexico City, underwent genotyping for at least one of 15 CNS gene-related SNPs at different timepoints. We employed multiple linear regression models to assess the potential impact of genetic variations on behavioral and cognitive traits, as measured by the Behavioral Assessment System...

Efficacy of the regional Mexican diet versus the Mediterranean diet in patients with MASLD: a 24-week non-inferiority trial
Rev Esp Enferm Dig. 2024 Mar 25. doi: 10.17235/reed.2024.10392/2024. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the present manuscript we present evidence of the improvement of MASLD with dietary intervention. It is known that the Mediterranean diet is the best intervention for this pathology, however, it cannot be established in all countries due to the diversity of foods. We create a Mexican diet with the nutrients of the Mediterranean diet for the treatment of our population.PMID:38525854 | DOI:10.17235/reed.2024.10392/2024 (Source: Revista Espanola de Enfermedades Digestivas)
