Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1882: Application of Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy for the Assessment of Wine Spoilage Indicators: A Feasibility Study
Lopes Wine aroma is one of the most frequently used and explored quality indicators. Typically, its assessment involves estimating the volatile composition of wine or highly trained assessors conducting sensory analysis. However, current methodologies rely on slow, expensive and complicated analytical procedures. Additionally, sensory evaluation is inherently subjective in nature. Therefore, the aim of this work is to verify the feasibility of using FTIR spectroscopy as a fast and easy methodology for the early detection of some of the most common off-odors in wines. FTIR spectroscopy was combined with partial least s...

The impact of a specialist-led digital health application on menopause symptoms in the workplace: A single-arm, longitudinal evaluation
Menopause is a natural process in normal female aging, resulting from depletion of ovarian follicles, and occurs at a median age of 51  years in Caucasian women and earlier in others, with the menopause transition usually starting at about 47 years. This period lasts until a year after menstruation has ceased and marks the menopause transition [1]. Although the transition happens to half the population, the experience varies co nsiderably from person to person [2]. While some women report no menopausal symptoms, others experience severe symptoms lasting for, at its worst, over a decade. (Source: Maturitas)

One in Four People With Schizophrenia or Bipolar Have Multiple Physical Health Problems
Astudy inLancet Psychiatry reports that adults with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder are more than twice as likely as those without these disorders to have multiple physical health problems like heart disease or diabetes. Further, the presence of multiple physical problems was more common in adults with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder than the presence of multiple psychiatric disorders.“While health services and treatment guidelines often operate on the assumption that individuals have a single principal diagnosis, these results attest to the clinical complexity many people with severe mental illness face in relation ...

Comparing service user perspectives of an early intervention in psychosis service before and during COVID-19 lockdowns: a service evaluation
Nikita Sakaria, Christopher Sanderson, Simon Watkins, Victoria Boynton Mental Health Review Journal, Vol. ahead-of-print, No. ahead-of-print, pp.- This service evaluation aims to understand the experiences of service users (SUs) who accessed an early intervention in psychosis (EIP) service during the Coronavirus pandemic using qualitative and quantitative methodologies and compare these to a previous pre-pandemic study conducted within the same service (Watkins et al., 2018).This paper collated experiences of individuals accessing an EIP service to inform service development. Questionnaires and individual interviews were...

Prevalence of postpartum depression and its predictors among nursing mothers in selected hospitals in Nsukka, Nigeria: a cross-sectional survey
This study aims to determine the prevalence and predictors of postpartum depression (PPD) among nursing mothers in Nsukka, Nigeria. This study was a descriptive cross-sectional survey among nursing mothers in three hospitals in Nsukka, Nigeria. Data was collected using a self-administered Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS) and sociodemographic form. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square test and binary logistic regression.A total of 270 nursing mothers participated in this survey, giving a response rate of 94.4%. The prevalence of PPD among the study group was 20.0%. However, wom...

A Video-based Automated Tracking and Analysis System of Plaque Burden in Carotid Artery Using Deep Learning: A Comparison with Senior Sonographers
CONCLUSION: Our findings have indicated that the RVM model can be used in ultrasound carotid video. The RVM model can automatically segment and quantify atherosclerotic plaque burden at the same diagnostic level as senior sonographers. The application of AI to carotid videos offers more precise and effective methods to evaluate carotid atherosclerosis in clinical practice.PMID:38639284 | DOI:10.2174/0115734056296233240401061756 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Comparative Analysis of Clinical Outcomes: Posterior Cervical Endoscopic Discectomy versus Fenestration Laminectomy Discectomy for Cervical Disc Herniation
CONCLUSION: PCED showed favorable long-term clinical efficacy in the treatment of CDH, with excellent recovery and high safety. Compared to FLD, PCED resulted in reduced intraoperative blood loss, shorter incision length, and faster recovery. It also led to improved pain scores, functional outcomes, and quality of life measures. The absence of postoperative complications further supports the use of PCED as an effective treatment option for CDH.PMID:38639610 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)
