Two-Dimensional Conjugated Metal-Organic Frameworks with a Ring-in-Ring Topology and High Electrical Conductance
In this study, we have employed a novel highly branched D3h symmetrical planar conjugated ligand, dodechydroxylhexabenzotrinaphthylene (DHHBTN) to fabricate a series of 2D conductive MOFs, named M-DHHBTN (M = Co, Ni, and Cu). This new family of MOFs offers two distinct types of pores, elevating the structural complexity of 2D conductive MOFs to a more advanced level. The intricate tessellation patterns of the M-DHHBTN are elucidated through comprehensive analyses involving powder X-ray diffraction, theoretical simulations, and high-resolution transmission electron microscope. Optical-pump terahertz-probe spectroscopic meas...

Breaking Highly Ordered PtPbBi Intermetallic with Disordered Amorphous Phase for Boosting Electrocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution and Alcohol Oxidation
In this study, we report the synthesis of ultrathin A/IMC PtPbBi nanosheets (NSs) for boosting hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and alcohol oxidation reactions. The resulting A/IMC PtPbBi NSs exhibit a remarkably low overpotential of only 25 mV at 10 mA cm-2 for the HER in an acidic electrolyte, together with outstanding stability for 100 h. In addition, the PtPbBi NSs show high mass activities for methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) and ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR), which are 13.2 and 14.5 times higher than those of commercial Pt/C, respectively. Density functional theory calculations demonstrate that the synergistic e...

Momelotinib in myelofibrosis
Expert Opin Pharmacother. 2024 Apr 16. doi: 10.1080/14656566.2024.2343780. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Myelofibrosis (MF) is a hematologic disease characterized by bone marrow fibrosis, cytopenias, splenomegaly, and constitutional symptoms. Recent years have seen the emergence of novel therapeutic agents, notably ruxolitinib and fedratinib, which target the Janus kinases (JAK) pathway. However, their myelosuppressive effect coupled with the persistence, and even worsening anemia remains a significant challenge, leading usually to treatment discontinuation.AREAS COVERED: This review focuses on Momelotinib (M...

Combined effects of azoxystrobin and oxytetracycline on rhizosphere microbiota of Arabidopsis thaliana
Environ Int. 2024 Apr 14;186:108655. doi: 10.1016/j.envint.2024.108655. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe rhizosphere is one of the key determinants of plant health and productivity. Mixtures of pesticides are commonly used in intensified agriculture. However, the combined mechanisms underlying their impacts on soil microbiota remain unknown. The present study revealed that the rhizosphere microbiota was more sensitive to azoxystrobin and oxytetracycline, two commonly used pesticides, than was the microbiota present in bulk soil. Moreover, the rhizosphere microbiota enhanced network complexity and stability and increased c...

Submicron aerosol pollution in Greater Cairo (Egypt): A new type of urban haze?
Environ Int. 2024 Mar 27;186:108610. doi: 10.1016/j.envint.2024.108610. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGreater Cairo, the largest megacity of the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region, is currently suffering from major aerosol pollution, posing a significant threat to public health. However, the main sources of pollution remain insufficiently characterized due to limited atmospheric observations. To bridge this knowledge gap, we conducted a continuous 2-month field study during the winter of 2019-2020 at an urban background site, documenting for the first time the chemical and physical properties of submicron (PM1) aerosol...

Spelling Facilitates Reading: A Tutorial on the Spell-to-Read Approach
CONCLUSIONS: Learning to spell is essential for learning to read. Accordingly, this tutorial aims to elucidate how to (a) assess and identify phases of spelling development and (b) teach spelling to facilitate reading through a listening-first approach.PMID:38625104 | DOI:10.1044/2024_LSHSS-23-00137 (Source: Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools)

A thematic analysis of alcohol and alcohol-related harm across health and social policy in Aotearoa New Zealand
CONCLUSIONS: The lack of alignment between New Zealand alcohol policy and the SAFER framework can be partially attributable to the absence of an updated national alcohol strategy (NAS). An updated NAS should identify responsible agencies, create a systematic monitoring and evaluation mechanism, and be consistent with the WHO SAFER framework.IMPLICATIONS FOR PUBLIC HEALTH: The analysis supports the need to update a national alcohol strategy to guide alcohol policy development.PMID:38626567 | DOI:10.1016/j.anzjph.2024.100143 (Source: Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health)

Analysis of driver behavior at grade-separated intersections to support design
Appl Ergon. 2024 Apr 15;118:104287. doi: 10.1016/j.apergo.2024.104287. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTUnderstanding driver behaviors in varied traffic scenarios is critical to the design of safe and efficient roadways and traffic control device. This research presents an analysis of driver cognitive workload, situation awareness (SA) and performance for three different scenarios, including a standard intersection and contraflow grade-separated intersections (C-GSI) and quadrant GSI (Q-GSI) with lane assignment sign manipulations. The study used a simulator-based driving experiment with application of the NASA Task Load Inde...

The Text-Picture Integration Scale for Perspectives on Mental Illness: Development and Validation
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: Preliminary analyses support that the Text-Picture Integration Scale is a stable and effective rating scale to determine public perspectives on mental illness and is appropriate for evaluating destigmatization efforts. Plain-Language Summary: The study findings support the use of the Text-Picture Integration Scale as a stable and effective rating scale to determine public perspectives on mental illness. The scale is also appropriate for evaluating ways to address the stigmas that people associate with mental illness, which pose challenges for people in recovery. Occupational therapists can levera...

Factors that influence scope-of-practice decisions of early-career family physicians: Focus group study in Canada
CONCLUSION: Decisions about scope of practice by early-career family physicians are highly influenced by personal factors followed by organizational, educational, community, and system factors. These findings suggest numerous strategies are needed to increase individuals' interest in providing comprehensive care in Canada. Educators should cultivate interest in comprehensive care among learners, strategically recruit trainees, provide targeted exposure and experiences, ensure competence and confidence are evaluated throughout and at the end of training, and introduce formal mentorship programs. Policy-makers should invest ...

How Nurse Faculty in Saudi Arabia View Their Competencies in All Aspects of the Faculty Role: A Descriptive Study
This study used a quantitative descriptive survey with a sample of 92 participants to assess perceived nurse faculty competency in their role at Saudi Arabian universities. Participants' perceptions overall were highly positive in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service competencies. Participants reported less competence in the areas of scholarship and service when they started in their role. Orientation and a mentor relationship with senior faculty were reported to aid in their transition to the faculty role. The findings of the study identify strategies to support the new nurse educator.PMID:38625709 | DOI:10.109...
