Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 2672: DEMA: A Deep Learning-Enabled Model for Non-Invasive Human Vital Signs Monitoring Based on Optical Fiber Sensing
This study introduces a non-invasive surveillance system that employs an optical fiber sensor and advanced deep-learning methodologies for precise vital sign readings. This system integrates a monitor based on the MZI (Mach–Zehnder interferometer) with LSTM networks, surpassing conventional approaches and providing potential uses in medical diagnostics. This could be potentially utilized in non-invasive health surveillance, evaluation, and intelligent health care. (Source: Sensors)

Visuospatial abilities and 3D-printed based learning
ConclusionThis study showed that VSA has an impact on the recognition of complex clinical presentations, i.e. skulls with craniosynostosis. The correlation found between VSA and complex 3D shape recognition after learning aided with 3D-printed model is emphasizing the importance of VSA when using innovative technologies. Thus, VSA training should be envisioned during the curriculum. (Source: Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy)

IJERPH, Vol. 21, Pages 518: Surveillance of Occupational Exposure to Volatile Organic Compounds at Gas Stations: A Scoping Review Protocol
Castro Health surveillance guides public policies, allows for the monitoring of occupational exposures that may cause health risks, and can prevent work-related diseases. The scoping review protocol herein is designed to map studies on the surveillance of occupational exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in gas stations and identify the governmental agencies and public health measures in different countries. This review protocol is based on the Joanna Briggs Institute manual and guided by the PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews. It includes research articles, theses, dissertations, and official documents on s...

Alterations of the cerebral microstructure in patients with noise ‐induced hearing loss: A diffusion tensor imaging study
ConclusionThe changes in the white matter (WM) microstructure may be related to hearing loss caused by noise exposure, and the WM structural abnormalities in patients with NIHL were mainly located in the syndesmotic fibers of the temporooccipital region, which affected the auditory and language pathways. This confirmed that the auditory pathways have abnormal structural connectivity in patients with NIHL. (Source: Brain and Behavior)

Understanding trauma as contextualized adverse life events that threaten the individual: Commentary in response to Marx et  al. (2024)
AbstractIn this commentary, I propose that a person-oriented and research-focused approach can stimulate the discussion on the definition of a traumatic stressor and help to refine Criterion A in theDiagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). Particularly, I suggest that a contextual perspective focusing on the interaction between event features and person-related factors captures more adequately the individual perception of and cognitions related to extremely threatening adverse life events for a diversity of individuals exposed to trauma. In future debate, I encourage the involvement of patients and the ...

Does gestational diabetes mellitus increase the risk of cardiovascular disease? A Mendelian randomization study
ConclusionWomen with a prior history of GDM face an elevated risk of future CAD. This increased risk of CAD cannot be solely attributed to the subsequent onset of diabetes. Regular CAD risk assessment and primary prevention strategies are of paramount importance for women with a history of GDM. (Source: Journal of Endocrinological Investigation)
