Letter to the editor regarding “Associations between paraspinal muscle characteristics and spinal curvature in conservatively treated adolescent idiopathic scoliosis: a systematic review” by Chan et al.
We read with high interest the study by Chan and colleagues about the muscle characteristics in scoliosis and their relationships with the curve features. The authors conducted a systematic review and found that the paraspinal muscles on the concavity presented different important alterations [1]. The results of this work are very important, especially for supporting the studies about rehabilitation in scoliosis. The application of quantitative measures, like the ones mentioned in the review, deserves a lot of attention because they allow precise calculations able to sustain valid reasonings. How do different intraoral scanners and milling machines affect the fit and fatigue behavior of lithium disilicate and resin composite endocrowns?
J Mech Behav Biomed Mater. 2024 Apr 18;155:106557. doi: 10.1016/j.jmbbm.2024.106557. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of the combinations of two different intraoral scanners (IOS), two milling machines, and two restorative materials on the marginal/internal fit and fatigue behavior of endocrowns produced by CAD-CAM. Eight groups (n= 10) were considered through the combination of TRIOS 3 (TR) or Primescan (PS) IOS; 4-axes (CR; CEREC MC XL) or 5-axes (PM; PrograMill PM7) milling machines; and lithium disilicate (LD; IPS e.max CAD) or resin composite (RC; Tetric CAD) rest...

Graduate medical education success coaching for residents and fellows: a single-institution real-world experience
We report our three-year experience of a GME success coaching program that aims to help trainees reach their full potential by addressing various areas of medical knowledge, clinical skills, efficiency, interpersonal skills and communication, professionalism, and mental health and well-being. The majority of participants (87%) were identified by themselves, their program director, and/or the GME coaches to have more than one area of need. The majority (79%) of referrals were identified by the coaches to have additional needs to the reasons for referral. We provide a framework for implementation of a GME coaching program an...

Improving connections to early childhood systems of care via a universal home visiting program in Massachusetts
Child Youth Serv Rev. 2023 Jul;150. doi: 10.1016/j.childyouth.2023.106995.ABSTRACTWelcome Family is a universal, short-term nurse home visiting program designed to promote optimal maternal and infant physical and mental well-being and provide an entry point into the early childhood system of care to all families with newborns up to 8 weeks old living in defined communities in Massachusetts. The present study examines whether: 1) Welcome Family meets its goal of successfully connecting families to two early childhood programs-evidence-based home visiting (EBHV) and early intervention (EI)-relative to families with similar b...

Stressful life events and prenatal representations of the child
Attach Hum Dev. 2024 Apr 24:1-17. doi: 10.1080/14616734.2024.2345242. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCaregivers' mental representations of their children can be assessed prenatally and are prospectively associated with later caregiving quality and caregiver-child attachment. Compared to balanced, distorted or disengaged representations are linked to insecure caregiver-child attachments. The present study explored factors (i.e. stressful life experiences and positive experiences) that may be linked to risk for distorted and disengaged representations. We used a brief version of the Prenatal Working Model of the Child Intervi...

Coronavirus Anxiety, COVID Anxiety Syndrome and Mental Health: A Test Among Six Countries During March 2021
Clin Psychol Psychother. 2024 Mar-Apr;31(2):e2988. doi: 10.1002/cpp.2988.ABSTRACTThe negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health outcomes is widely documented. Specifically, individuals experiencing greater degrees of severity in coronavirus anxiety have demonstrated higher levels of generalized anxiety, depression and psychological distress. Yet the pathways in which coronavirus anxiety confers vulnerability are not well known. The present investigation sought to address this gap in the scientific literature by testing the indirect effect of the COVID-19 anxiety syndrome, which centres on the function of det...

Psychiatrists can save lives with naloxone
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings highlight the importance of community access to naloxone in reducing opioid-related harm. Whilst removing the need for a prescription makes naloxone more accessible, it remains vital that doctors remain involved in this process to broaden the reach of supply to those at risk.PMID:38657130 | DOI:10.1177/10398562241249062 (Source: Australasian Psychiatry)

First Onset in Adulthood of Mental Disorders: Exposure to War < em > vs < /em > . Non-war Childhood Adversities: A National Study
CONCLUSION: Childhood traumata are not equal in predicting the first onset of mood and anxiety disorders into adulthood. Family malfunctioning looks to carry the longest such risk and war more of shorter immediate effects. This might change though with re-exposure to war in adulthood which might unravel dormant vulnerability.PMID:38655552 | PMC:PMC11037514 | DOI:10.2174/0117450179216651231106072824 (Source: Clinical Practice and Epidemiology in Mental Health)
