Doctor/Lawyer Anesthesiologists on SDN
Hi, I am wondering if there are any MD/JD anesthesiologists on SDN? I am an MD/JD and am interested in learning about how other anesthesiologists have blended both degrees into their careers. It would be nice to learn if there are physicians who practice both anesthesiology and law simultaneously. Anesthesiology is one of the few specialties that allow for this potential (EM is another). In the very least, it would be great to connect with other MD/JDs. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Legal Resource to help with malpractice defense? (Military)
I have been recently notified that I have been identified from a military malpractice claim from an active duty member. I don't have malpractice insurance myself because the military covers claims made against me. Previously, active duty military cant make malpractice claims against AD provider, but now they can with a new legislation. Because of this, I believe this means that I need to find my own lawyer to help represent me. In particular, to help me get my statement straight; this... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dismissed from a US MD school how does this affect chances at AA/PA school?
Hi, Looking for some guidance on this thread. I was dismissed from a US MD school last year for academic performance. I was a second year medical student who failed two courses infectious disease and neurology and did not pass the makeup exams which led to my dismissal from medical school. I am also in the appeal process of trying to get readmitted for the class this fall to repeat the second year of medical school. I realize there are no guarantees. I was advised to get a lawyer or switch... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Sexual assault or misconduct. What are my chances?
Hi I am a senior chemistry major at a small liberal arts school. I have been wrongly accused of sexual assault and for the past 4 months have been going through the Title IX process at my school with a lawyer that I have hired. It’s been determined that I am responsible despite the lack of physical evidence. My college works on the preponderance of evidence so the burden of proof was already very low. Their were differing witness claims but the college has come to the decision that the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Workers Comp Lawyer requesting opinion on surveillance footage.
I got a letter from a workers comp attorney with a usb stick of surveillance footage of a patient I am a secondary treater on for pain management. They patient has a upper extremity issue and is seen, mowing the lawn, using a blower and lawnmower. The requested I offer an opinion on the footage and whether it changes my recommendation. Can you all offer some advice on how to deal with this. I would prefer not to offer an opinion on the matter. I will likely re-examine the patient in... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Patient bringing lawyer to appointment
The situation is complex and involves a CMHO who is ordered by a state agency to continue to serve a patient who is in the process of bringing a lawsuit against the CMHO (I don't actually know all the details as I am not directly involved in the patient's care). The patient is now indicating they will be bringing their lawyer to appointments via Zoom. I know the agency is on the hook to serve the patient, but I as an individual physician would be pretty reluctant to participate. As I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Lawyer thinking about MD: any structural issues with medicine I should be concerned about?
I’ve been working at a large law firm after graduating from a “top” law school (one of Harvard/Stanford/Yale). I originally wanted to go to law school because I really love learning how complicated systems work and was hoping that gaining specialized knowledge of the legal system would allow me to make positive difference in people’s lives. In practice, I came to feel that (a) the vast majority of the “positive differences” you can make as a lawyer are much more symbolic than practical and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

DUI in my 3rd year of clinical psychology doctoral program. Placement, internships, licensing?
Hi everyone, I am in my 3rd year of my doctoral program, and I work with kids and families. I made a dumb mistake and drove home after the bar. I hadn't had a drink since 11:30 and we left at 2:30 AM and I felt fine. I got pulled over after almost missing my exit and I blew .1 (only .02 over our legal limit here). After speaking to lawyers, I think I'm probably going to be charged with an Operating while visually impaired, which in michigan is a "lesser" alcohol related driving charge that... Is Medical School Worth it for me or should I just forget about it once and for all? Lawyer and mom of 3 with horrible science GPA but real passion
I kind of have a sad pre-med story. I was an international student. My step-father, a surgeon in his country, saw a future doctor in me. I resisted it and took on a bunch of humanities and social studies ( triple majored with a minor). Midway through college I changed my mind and realised that helping and healing people is my passion and took on a bunch of pre-med classes. Long story short I have a high functioning ADHD that went undiagnosed in college. I earned 235 credits ( 75 from various... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

IHonestly did not know about a misdemeanor that is on Certiphi
Back in 2016, I got a speeding ticket for going 81 mph on the highway. I hired a traffic lawyer, and he told me he would enter a not guilty plea for me. He also said "The ticket has been amended to a non-moving violation, which means it will not go on your driving record, nor affect your car insurance rate." So I assumed everything was fine. Turns out, he entered a guilty plea for me for an expired break tag. I had no idea that happened. In every job application since then I have always... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

OPEN NOTES for ED documentation
My hospital network it trying to push this "OPEN NOTES" idea. Patients would have full online access to our ED physician notes. Naturally this is not advantageous for physicians nor the hospital and will lead to more complaints and potential lawsuits. We already have 3 audiences in our notes -- other physicians, lawyers, and billing. We don't need a fourth. The hospital is saying this is becoming a community standard. Is this true? Does your hospital have "open notes"? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
