How necessary is having a contract lawyer review before signing?
see title. Also if you guys went that route, what were you guys paying for a lawyer to do contract review? Im seeing anywhere from 500 to 2,000. I had a job offer today and they sent over the contract, but its fairly complex, 23 pages of all kinds of stipulations, lol (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Private Practice Entity
Hi everyone, I am in the midst of leaving the private practice where I've been working the last 6 months. I live in NYS and my lawyer has already began forming my PLLC, but due to delays with the dept of education it is likely going to take 3-4 months to get this fully processed. My question is basically: can I still operate on my own with my individual NPI as a sole proprietor while waiting for my PLLC to be done? I realize the disadvantage would involve not having optimal liability... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Lawyer in Medical School, having doubts!
Hi All, I am a lawyer and I have been a medical student as well for a year, but I took a leave of absence due to burnout and the desire to work again and make a living. I'm just so worried that if I do not go back to medical school, I will deeply regret it. I have also begun to lose faith that I will truly be happy practicing medicine. However, you never know, maybe I will enjoy it. I am very conflicted. I just wanted to see if anyone has advice on this topic. I don't at this point... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Something just clicked and I want to go to medical school and I don't know where to start?
I'm 24 years old and have been out of undergrad for about 2 years now. For a long time, I thought I wanted to be a lawyer. However, after working at a courthouse for over a year, I've found myself disenchanted by the politics and structure of the legal field. It's all politics and no one actually wants to put people first. I just don't think it's right for me. I have a passion for helping individuals and thought I would be able to do this through the legal field. However, my time at the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Malpractice case
I heard of this case in California. Remember when some of the spinals That we performed would not work, many of us would draw the 0.75% spinal bupivacaine from outside the spinal pack. Some ***** from pharmacy stocked the digoxin vials where they were supposed to stock bupivacaine, a look Alike vial. The inattentive nurse breaks open the vial and now the anesthesiologist draws it up and administers the spinal. And then the lawyers take over... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pain functionality scale
With the Medicare requirement for documentation of functionality score for RFAs, and now for epidurals, what pain functionality score are you collecting? Among the ones the Noridian LCD names, the ODI seems the shortest and simplest. However, if I interpret the language in a lawyerly way, they aren’t exactly saying you must use one of the scales listed. With that in mind, I chose the PEG scale: 3 items, one of which is pain intensity... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Med mal case question
I have just settled a medical malpractice lawsuit (ischemic stroke, not a tPA candidate, bad outcome after mechanical thrombectomy) for 200k. Per my lawyer, the next step is a Department of Health investigation. Does anyone have experience with this? Not sure what to expect. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Other professions face lawsuits the same as doctors?
Are there other professions who face lawsuits the same as healthcare providers (MDs, RNs, dentists, etc)? Where they deal with complex issues that can easily be argued from both sides by experts, and face huge financial and professional consequences if something bad happens? I know lawyers can get sued for malpractice, and every business has insurance if someone slips and falls, but I'm not aware of people in other professions having their livelihoods or future earnings threatened with... Accident cases
I don’t want anything to do with these accident cases but these patients will sometimes seek me out for “treatments”. I don’t want to deal with the lawyers etc, patients say “they will just pay cash” or lie and say “they aren’t suing anyone”. How do you avoid these cases from entering the clinic or getting involved at all? This isn’t about why I don’t want to be involved so please don’t tell me the moneys good etc. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pain Doctors and Divorce...A Cautionary Tale...
Here's the best piece of advice for any Fellow or New Grad: Make her sign the Pre-Nup... It's been like groundhog day hearing about busy pain docs who married young, sacrificed the best years of their life to med school, residency, and fellowship being taken to the cleaners by greedy divorce lawyers and angry spouses. Other tips: 1) Put real estate, investments, large wholly-owned assets, etc in LLCs, trusts, or related business entities that will be out of reach of your ex-wife and her... Prosecutor to psychiatrist
I’m changing careers from being a lawyer to wanting to be a psychiatrist. I graduated from UCSD in 2004 with a BS in Clinical Psych, 2012 USD Law School with my JD, barred in California and Hawaii. I was a prosecutor in Hawaii and realized there is a lot of unaddressed mental illness in the legal system and is why I want to be a psychiatrist. I also am a Navy veteran with honorable service. Could I take my prerequisite courses at a community college? Or do I need to apply to a post bacc... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Telepsychiatry Non Compete
I’m interested in a job offer with a telemedicine start up for an outpatient job. They eventually plan to build a physical office in my city that I would have the option to work out of in a hybrid model. The non compete is the standard 1 year, 5 miles for the physical office, as well as barring ALL use of telemedicine in the exception of community mental health, inpatient, and student health centers. Essentially this prohibits outpatient work accepting private insurance. My lawyer has... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
