Dismissed from medical school due to poor academic performance? Chance/how to appeal
So I just got dismissed from my school for failing both 1st and 2nd semesters of M1 (though I did pass some classes within the block, my overall block for both semesters was fail). I also failed the remediation exam because I only had 7 weeks to remediate 2 semesters worth of material. I am going to appeal and even consider lawyering up if it may help my case. I know it is normal to have to repeat an entire academic year, and I asked my promotions committee for that option, but I still got... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Payment for replying to inbox/MyChart messages
1) Is anyone actually billing for 99421, 99422, or 99423 when patients initiate questions on MyChart? 2) And if so, are you using this for inquiries like titrating medications? 3) Who actually pays? Is it the payor or the patient? I'm curious because the majority of lawyers bill for their time even for the smallest inquiries. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Applying FM with a red flag
I am planning on applying FM. I was recently charged with a misdemeanor for reckless driving. I won’t go into the specifics but the situation was a mistake, I was not intentionally driving recklessly. I’m working with a lawyer to hopefully get the charges reduced, but I’m preparing for worst case scenario where they don’t get reduced. The rest of my application is good (254 Step 1, research, ECs, etc). With a big red flag like this, how much more broadly do I need to apply? I’m assuming a... Applying for House Physician License in Florida. History of DUI, Need advice!
In 2018, I had a run-in with the law and was facing DUI charges, however, my attorney was able to get the charges dismissed and the record expunged. While the case was pending I was adviced by my lawyer to complete DUI school, where they evaluated me and asked me to take 12 counseling sessions(1hour weekly), all of that is done and has been taken care of and there is no record of my arrest or the case. This year, I was planning on applying for the House Physician License in Florida and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

IUHS - Information from Current Students
I am a current student at IUHS. I have started this thread to reach out to other current students who may wish to share their experiences and to prospective students who may have questions. The IUHS program: The first two years of Basic Medical Sciences is on line with live lectures. The Basic Medical Science curriculum takes 27 months to complete. It is followed by the usual 80 weeks over years three and four in U.S. hospitals. The 27 months begins with "Block Zero" (now called "PMT")... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Learning about Navy medicine
I’m applying to medical school in the next cycle (former lawyer hence the username lol) and I’m interested in USUHS, hoping to be in the Navy. A lot of the resources I’ve been able to find to learn more about military medicine are focused on the financial pros/cons, etc. I’m having trouble getting a realistic sense of some more day-to-day questions— am I going to get to go on a ship? How much of my career? What is EM in the military like vs what I’ve seen in my civilian hospital work? I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Got a contract? Get a lawyer.
For the new grads, or the seasoned docs changing jobs, get a lawyer to review your contracts AND represent you. Most jobs are boiler plate templates, but even then I've combed over one such boiler plate and found few errors. In conjunction with a lawyer better language was drafted, additions added and submitted back. Feedback was positive with intent to use on future contracts by their corporate lawyer. Other changes were begrudgingly obliged because it wasn't worth the effort to push back... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
