Pending Misdemeanor - ERAS Applications
Hey everyone, I'm a rising USMD MS4/current MS3 beginning the process now to apply for residencies. However, I royally royally screwed up. I have a pending charge (not currently in the system) for an OWI misdemeanor. At this time, I have retained a lawyer; however, he does not think he could plead me down, considering that I received it in a harsh county. So I'm coming to ask for some advice; my lawyer states that I could prolong the conviction till after the submission of ERAS. But in my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Doing locums work directly?
I've done some locums work lately, and although the pay is good, more than once I've had the contract the temp agency has with the clients get leaked to me. And... Well, the mark ups are insane. 70% plus in one case. Which makes me wonder... Why on earth should these (often useless) middlemen make so much? Of course if I did it on my own there would be additional expenses -- additional insurances, probably a lawyer to help me with contracts, additional accounting etc. Also, I know that... DUI before residency
Here I am asking strangers on a forum for advice/information on a stupid mistake that I regret every day. "Tell me about a time where you made a mistake". So I am a non-US IMG that was charged end of 2019 in Canada for a DUI. My BAC was almost double and I was involved in a collision (no injuries). Because of covid, the courts are backed up and I have no idea if the charges will be dropped or when the trial will be. My lawyer joked and said maybe not in 5 years. I have been sober since... Lawyer to Doctor?
Hello everyone! I had a few questions about applying and potentially getting into medical school (DO/MD). A background about myself. I obtained my bach degree in 2014, with a double major in business management and finance. Thereafter, I decided to pursue my JD, and started LS in 2015. I graduated in 2018 with my JD, and passed my bar exam on my first attempt. I've been practicing law about 4.5 years and have considered changing career paths. (Not really interested in the practice of law... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Postpartum Psychosis
It is discouraging to read in news that lawyers are criticizing medicating postpartum psychosis. In my limited, anecdotal experience the cases I have seen in ED or inpatient were generally admitted on SSRI only or if on antipsychotic woefully under-dosed. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Deposition subpoena question
Hello, I have a patient who I've seen over the last few years. 2 years prior to meeting him he was in a significant motor vehicle collision. Recently my office received a notice that I was being subpoenaed to show up in court. Additionally this lawyer would like to meet up with me for several hours prior to discuss the case. Apparently our legal office reached out to him and I am in fact being subpoenaed so my assumption is in court I am a fact witness? I have read previous threads regarding... Choosing between teaching and dentistry
Hi everyone, I’m a freshman in college, currently in my second semester, and I just don’t really know exactly what I want to do. Originally I wanted to become a lawyer and was a criminal justice major first semester, after shadowing lawyers I realized how bored I would be in that profession. Then after shadowing a few dentists, I thought I’d enjoy something like that and that obviously the money is good. So end of my first semester, I switched to a chemistry major on the pre dental track... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Quantitative TOF monitoring
Just got around to reading the new ASA Guidelines, that STRONGLY recommend use of quantitative TOF monitors. We don’t even have these monitors in our ORs and with standard TOF twitch monitors and sugamadex we have essentially eliminated PACU issues directly attributable to residual motor weakness. Why is the ASA arming lawyers with this stuff? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

A case of alleged intraop recall in the news
He says he woke up during surgery. His lawsuit blames it on anesthesiologist's fentanyl abuse A lawsuit against UC San Diego alleges a former anesthesiologist was a longtime drug addict who did not give enough anesthesia to a patient. www.google.com UCSD, plantiff lawyer alleges the anesthesia record was falsified. Is this a trend in the legal world to readily assert a bad outcome ? I don't work there but would be surprised if they aren't using an EMR. CRNA denies changes to the medical record and little incentive to do so. There could be othe...

Employment Questions
I want to learn a little more about things I should do before signing a job offer. Ideally, I would go over the contract with a lawyer and try to negotiate the contract. Realistically, I do not want to spend >$1,000 (guess) for attorney fees. Also, I want to know a little bit about how did you decide to choose one practice over the other. What about some suspicious signs you had? For example, having a zoom interview and then getting an offer doesn't raise a red flag? I was the one... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Early Contract
My home town is writing up a contract for me to sign on with them. Its a very generous offer, but I wanted to get some tips on what to make sure is included in the contract and if a lawyer is definitely needed to look over the contract. CMO says it should be done in the next couple of weeks. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hospital continued to not adequately staff or support what staff remained post covid and the writing was on the wall it was going downhill quickly. I then left in favor of starting private practice, riding out non compete now.
