How much did your MCAT score improve from your first practice test to your real exam? How much did you study?
I just took my first official AAMC practice MCAT. I scored a 493, which places me at the 25th percentile. That sounds super discouraging and everything to me, but I haven't taken orgo 1 or 2 or biochemistry. I'm also in physics 2 right now. I also did the exam in half the time that was alloted, so I know that my score will be higher. I was mainly just trying to get a feel for the style of questions to help me see how I need to study. I know that I can't really use my 493 to predict a... How much did your MCAT score improve from your first practice test to your real exam? How much did you study? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I hone on Chem/Phys or try to perfect the other sections?
I'm scoring around a 500 right now, and my weakest section is Chem/Phys. I struggled with orgo in class, and struggle on the MCAT. the content knowledge can be confusing. However, I'm getting around a 125-126. While I'm quite low in the other sections, in terms of confidence to improve, here is my ranking: 1. Bio/Biochem 2. Psych/Soc 3. How important is step 1 score for MSTP residency applicants?
My step score is average at best (around 230), which was disappointing given that I had a very good MCAT and was hoping to do well on Step 1. Plus I'm afraid that, since I've heard that average Step 1 scores are increasing every year, it will look even worse when applying for residency in 5-6 years. I am aware that having a publication definitely won't compensate for low GPA/MCAT; however, assuming that MCAT/GPA are within range or competitive for a school. Does having a publication really matter, even though roughly less than 20% of applicants have a poster presentation? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Massive upward trend, what GPA range for med schools should I aim for?
Applying this upcoming cycle, and need to consider if I need to load up next semester to bring up GPA even more (by like .02 to reach 3.7) or take it easy and focus on apps and volunteering. I have my IS schools and undergrad on my list, but after that I'm not so sure. I've glanced at MSAR but am unsure how I should interpret my GPA. Trend: 3.07 -> 3.7+ -> 3.9+ -> 4.0* cGPA will be ~ 3.7,with sGPA ~3.6 *obviously haven't finished this year but that's the trend. MCAT: 519 WA resident... Canadian 525 MCAT with weak EC's applying American
I received my MCAT score yesterday and was obviously thrilled with the results (132/130/131/132). I'm in junior year and previously I was planning on applying only Canadian next cycle but I now think I would like to try my luck at some of the top American schools. The big issue is my EC's are weak (no clinical volunteering or shadowing as these aren't required in Canada) but I'm in the process of beginning them this semester. Obviously I wouldn't be competitive at these institutions next... Canadian 525 MCAT with weak EC's applying American (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dual application to Post-bacc programs AND medical school?
Here's my story.. Graduated undergrad with a 2.9 sgpa and 3.0 cgpa. I wasn't consistently "bad", my last 2-3 years were 3.5+. I finished my degree in 5 years but took an extra year of sciences and I still ended up with a 2.9 sgpa, THEN I graduated. I applied to medical school last year and got rejected. Now.. I was told to take some science classes and ideally get a 4.0 in them, so I'm doing a 1 year informal plan and aiming for a 4.0. (Took the mcat, got a 506) I plan to apply to medical...
