Adcoms: Is there any inherent bias held towards traditional candidates, now that so many people take gap years?
Having attended recent interviews I see roughly 3/4 of the candidates are older, have taken multiple gap years, have families and such. With all things being equal - GPA, MCAT, experiences, references, community service and volunteering, do you think committees prefer these type of candidates these days? Is there any inherent bias held towards traditional candidates, now that so many people take gap years? And by bias, I do not mean personal bias, but a view that these students are better... Asian male MS3, 220 step, 0 publications, how ****ed am I for Emergency Medicine
Basically the title. I'm a type B that made it into med school because of good interviewing skills and a competitive mcat/ GPA at a state school, which obviously did not translate into a good step score or good preclinical grades because I decided to study by watching lectures from home and only found out about Zanki/Sketchy/Pathoma mid way through second year. My dream program is UCSD or USC for residency because I used to live in California. Currently out of state. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Advice on whether to apply for Caribbean ’s med school or do post bac?
Hi, I’m a senior in my last quarter before I graduate with a Bachelors. I’m 26 years old and things happened that led me to complete school late. My gpa is horrible. 3.0 total and 2.8 for science. Things have been improving in life and I was able to focus on studies more and am doing good this quarter. But I know this upward trend isn’t enough. I will be taking the MCAT in April, but my chances of getting accepted into a US school isn’t much. I do have a lot of volunteer and clinical hours... For my whole life, I have never really had a long "break". Every summer was work or study and then 2 weeks where I follow my parents on a sightseeing trip. Insanely low MCAT, all other stats stellar...am I doomed?
I hope your cycles are going well. Let's get right to it. I have a 3.56 GPA from a top-20 research university, stellar LORs (all of my recommenders sent them to me before submitting), tons of clinical experience (long term shadowing and volunteering in clinic, etc), above average research experience with a publication under review - and - a couple of distinguished awards on my resume that will turn heads of the AdCom, let's leave it at that. So let me preface this by saying I took the MCAT in August 2017. If I don't apply now, many schools wont accept my MCAT next cycle (mainly my state schools and a bunch of other schools, actually the only ones that will take it are most of the higher tier schools). My MCAT is also a 523 [132/127/132/132] and retaking it would be... well... lmao... plus I work 60hrs a week minimum right now with no wiggle room to drop that so prepping for the MCAT again wouldn't be too fun. 2 gap years just to travel?
Hey everyone, I’m currently a 4th year undergraduate student who switched from pre-dental to pre-medical this past summer! I have been debating on taking 1 vs 2 gap years for a while as I have not had the chance to take the MCAT yet due to switching to pre-medical so late in the game. If I were to take one gap year, I would have to study for the MCAT next quarter while working 16 hours a week as a scribe, volunteering at 2 different places totaling about 6 hours a week, and take a 2 unit... 2 gap years just to travel? Master's Program Possibilities
So I am thinking of doing a masters if I don't get in after my gap year. My stats/ECs aren't bad with the exception of my third MCAT being 513 (125 CARS). I'm dead set on medicine, however I wouldn't mind doing a masters for the knowledge and experience. That being, which masters program before med school do you think would be beneficial in what ways for future physicians to have? Although research based master's have nice stipends and possible pubs, I don't see it impactful in the long run... Master's Program Possibilities (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is there any new data (or old) that correlates preclinical GPA to board scores?
I have used the search feature, and it generally comes back with a bunch of threads regarding undergraduate GPA and MCAT based on board pass rates or comes back as "preclinical gpa means nothing." But past that, is there seriously no correlation between preclinical grades and board score or am I just missing something? Please enlighten me because I would be interested in knowing if a correlation exists! P.S. I understand 100% that a low preclinical GPA does not mean one cannot make a good... I got a 519 on my MCAT, working full time. Nontrad/AD military. Thoughts below.
I tested on 14 September 2019. I got a 519 (129/132/128/130). I studied on top of working full time. Don’t get me wrong, I got a lot of really great info from online forums in preparation for this test, but there were also things I wish I had heard or read while studying. This post is an attempt to address those topics. Materials/Random Study Stuff I used the Kaplan Books, the EK books, EK practice exams, UWorld, the 86 page P/S doc, the premed95 P/S Anki... Interviewing as a < 10th percentile candidate
So I was advised to apply to places mostly in the 25th-75th percentile for my GPA and MCAT unless I had some kind of "crazy story". However one school, a top 25, I was at the median for MCAT but less than 10th for GPA...but the secondary was free so literally the day of the secondary deadline (10/1) I decided to just throw in an app because why not. Well low and behold a short two weeks later (10/15) I received an interview unexpectedly for January. My question is now, how do I move forward... Interviewing as a

Studying for MCAT during School
Hi, everyone. I have been thinking about studying for the MCAT while taking on a full class load, and I was wondering if this is possible/recommended. I'm only a sophomore right now, so I've got a year to go before starting, but I'd like to get an idea of what to expect for next year. I'm thinking about studying for 6-7 months (after all the prereqs) while taking my required upper-level bio classes. This is just a general idea/plan, so please let me know what you think. Thank you!
