Inflammatory breast cancer: Epidemiologic data and therapeutic results
In this study, we reviewed the literature using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database compared to other published series. We observed that in the high incidence areas (North of Africa) when compared to "classical" breast cancer, IBC was associated to younger age (less than 50 years) with rapid evolution of signs and symptoms (in less than 3 up to 6 months), and more aggressive clinical and histopathological-molecular parameters, due to the predominance of triple-negative and HER2+ subtypes in around 60% of cases. An epidemiologic trend was observed in both high and low incidence areas since the ei...

Impact of radiation therapy modalities on loco-regional control in inflammatory breast cancer
CONCLUSIONS: Contrary to other important series, this large retrospective multicentric study did not show a loco-regional or distant control benefit of intensified radiotherapy. Pooled prospective studies and meta-analyses of intensified radiotherapy are warranted to endorse this approach.PMID:38621608 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijrobp.2024.04.010 (Source: Cancer Control)

Factors affecting upper limb functional recovery after mastectomy with immediate breast reconstruction: a prospective study
CONCLUSION: Postoperative shoulder function was comparable between the two IBR approaches. However, different factors were associated with improved upper limb disability between ABR and IMBR. Acute rehabilitation focused on resolving muscle tightness and pain may help mitigate upper limb disabilities following IBR.Trial registration number: KCT 0006501.PMID:38616681 | DOI:10.1080/09593985.2024.2343043 (Source: Physiotherapy Theory and Practice)

Investigating the level of vitamin D receptor gene expression in two tumoral and healthy breast tissues in breast cancer patients and its association with prognostic factors
CONCLUSIONS: The expression level of VDR in healthy tissue was significantly higher than tumoral tissue. However, there was no significant relationship between VDR and tumor grade, HER2, ER, PR, LVI, LN, disease stage, age, and tumor size.PMID:38616231 | DOI:10.1186/s43046-024-00215-5 (Source: J Egypt Natl Canc In...)

Hypofractionation for Regional Nodal Irradiation in Breast Cancer: Best of Both the Worlds
Clin Breast Cancer. 2024 Mar 14:S1526-8209(24)00080-6. doi: 10.1016/j.clbc.2024.03.007. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLocoregional radiotherapy play an important role in controlling the disease after surgery in patients with breast cancer. Radiotherapy schedules vary from conventional fraction to hypofractionation. The purpose of this review is to get an insight into the data on regional nodal irradiation (RNI) with hypofractionation in patients with breast cancer. This systematic review was constructed in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-analysis (PRISMA) framework. Electronic data...

Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy and Adequate Margins for Patients With Ductal Carcinoma In Situ
DISCUSSION: No specific margin status was found to correlate with recurrence for patients with DCIS or DCIS + MI undergoing NSM, with an altogether low recurrence risk. Overall, this suggests that recommended DCIS margins in BCS doesn't necessarily apply in NSM, where margins of <2 mm may be acceptable.PMID:38605446 | DOI:10.1177/00031348241246179 (Source: The American Surgeon)
