Healthy and sustainable school meals - proposal for a new quality index SMI-LE
CONCLUSIONS: A novel tool to has been provided for measuring the quality of school meals that addresses health and sustainability issues. It responds to the need for new indices that would consider changes in dietary guidelines and increasing knowledge about the impact of food systems on the environment.PMID:38549477 | DOI:10.26444/aaem/171610 (Source: Annals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine : AAEM)

Ru-Mg promoted reductive cross-coupling of allyl bromides and alkenes to 1,7-octadienes with an all-carbon quaternary center
Org. Biomol. Chem., 2024, Accepted Manuscript DOI: 10.1039/D4OB00116H, CommunicationShurong Zhang, Xinjie Zhao, Guiping Qin A Ru-promoted reductive cross-coupling of allyl bromides and electron-deficient alkenes to provide the terminal 1,7-octadienes with magnesium as reductant is reported herein. This approach enables the facile construction of a... The content of this RSS Feed (c) The Royal Society of Chemistry (Source: RSC - Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry)

SARS-CoV2 Nsp1 is a metal-dependent DNA and RNA endonuclease
Biometals. 2024 Mar 28. doi: 10.1007/s10534-024-00596-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOver recent years, we have been living under a pandemic, caused by the rapid spread of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2). One of the major virulence factors of Coronaviruses is the Non-structural protein 1 (Nsp1), known to suppress the host cells protein translation machinery, allowing the virus to produce its own proteins, propagate and invade new cells. To unveil the molecular mechanisms of SARS-CoV2 Nsp1, we have addressed its biochemical and biophysical properties in the presence of calcium, magnesium an...

Magnesium alleviates extracellular histone-induced apoptosis and defective bacterial phagocytosis in macrophages by regulating intracellular calcium signal
Int Immunopharmacol. 2024 Mar 27;132:111870. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2024.111870. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTExtracellular histones have been determined as important mediators of sepsis, which induce excessive inflammatory responses in macrophages and impair innate immunity. Magnesium (Mg2+), one of the essential nutrients of the human body, contributes to the proper regulation of immune function. However, no reports indicate whether extracellular histones affect survival and bacterial phagocytosis in macrophages and whether Mg2+ is protective against histone-induced macrophage damage. Our clinical data revealed a negativ...

Increased oxidative stress in shoe industry workers with low-level exposure to a mixture of volatile organic compounds
This study aimed to assess the redox status and trace metal levels in 49 shoe industry workers (11 men and 38 women) occupationally exposed to a mixture of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which includes aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones, esters, ethers, and carboxylic acids. All measured VOCs were below the permitted occupational exposure limits. The control group included 50 unexposed participants (25 men and 25 women). The following plasma parameters were analysed: superoxide anion (O2 •-), advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP), total oxidative status (TOS), prooxidant-antioxidant balance (...

One-pot synthesis, structural investigation, antitumor activity and molecular docking approach of two decavanadate compounds
In this study, the cytotoxic and the anti-proliferative activities of compounds (1) and (2) on human cancer cells (U87 and MDA-MB-231) were investigated. Both compounds demonstrated dose-dependent anti-proliferative activity on U87 and MDA-MB-231 with respective IC50 values of 0.82 and 0.31 μM and 1.4 and 1.75 μM. These data provide evidence on the potential anticancer activity of [(C6H13N4)2][Mg(H2O)6]2[O28V10].6H2O and [(C7H11N2)4][Mg(H2O)2][O28V10].4H2O. Molecular docking of the compounds was also examined. Molecular docking studies were performed for both compounds against four target receptors and revealed better bi...
