The effect of magnesium chloride as an anti-icing agent on tire/road friction coefficient - Leggett TS, Brewer E.
This article reports on the findings of tests designed to measure the effectiveness of magnesium chloride (MgCL ₂) as an anti-icing agent on tire/road friction coefficient. Skid tests under various conditions are conducted using a 1996 Chevrolet Caprice a... (Source: SafetyLit)

Dry reforming of methane by stable Ni-Mo nanocatalysts on single-crystalline MgO
Large-scale carbon fixation requires high-volume chemicals production from carbon dioxide. Dry reforming of methane could provide an economically feasible route if coke- and sintering-resistant catalysts were developed. Here, we report a molybdenum-doped nickel nanocatalyst that is stabilized at the edges of a single-crystalline magnesium oxide (MgO) support and show quantitative production of synthesis gas from dry reforming of methane. The catalyst runs more than 850 hours of continuous operation under 60 liters per unit mass of catalyst per hour reactive gas flow with no detectable coking. Synchrotron studies also show ...

Structural basis of second-generation HIV integrase inhibitor action and viral resistance
Although second-generation HIV integrase strand-transfer inhibitors (INSTIs) are prescribed throughout the world, the mechanistic basis for the superiority of these drugs is poorly understood. We used single-particle cryo–electron microscopy to visualize the mode of action of the advanced INSTIs dolutegravir and bictegravir at near-atomic resolution. Glutamine-148->histidine (Q148H) and glycine-140->serine (G140S) amino acid substitutions in integrase that result in clinical INSTI failure perturb optimal magnesium ion coordination in the enzyme active site. The expanded chemical scaffolds of second-generation c...

Magnetic measurements on micrometer-sized samples under high pressure using designed NV centers
We report a method for spatially resolved optical magnetometry based on imaging a layer of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers created at the surface of a diamond anvil. We illustrate the method using two sets of measurements realized at room temperature and low temperature, respectively: the pressure evolution of the magnetization of an iron bead up to 30 gigapascals showing the iron ferromagnetic collapse and the detection of the superconducting transition of magnesium dibromide at 7 gigapascals. Zydus Cadila files NDA for Saroglitazar Magnesium
NASH is a progressive disease of the liver and a significant unmet medical need. There are currently no treatments available for the treatment of NASH. aroglitazar Mg has previously demonstrated improvement in both liver enzymes along with favorable effects on lipid and glycemic indices in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in Phase II clinical trials. Host resistance factor SLC11A1 restricts Salmonella growth through magnesium deprivation
The pleiotropic host resistance factor SLC11A1 (NRAMP1) defends against diverse intracellular pathogens in mammals by yet-unknown mechanisms. We compared Salmonella infection of coisogenic mice with different SLC11A1 alleles. SLC11A1 reduced Salmonella replication and triggered up-regulation of uptake systems for divalent metal cations but no other stress responses. SLC11A1 modestly diminished iron availability and acutely restricted Salmonella access to magnesium. Growth of Salmonella cells in the presence of SLC11A1 was highly heterogeneous and inversely correlated with expression of the crucial magnesium transporter gen...
