Deferral rejected
Hi Folks, Im in the early acceptance program 3+4 at LECOM and supposed to matriculate this fall. Unfortunately, I got sick with lyme and need to take a year off for medical reasons. I asked for a deferral and they rejected it and the only reason I got was that the school wasn't accepting any deferrals. I asked the admissions office if I was able to appeal it and they said I could but most likely, the decision won't be reversed. Im so upset because they said ill have to reapply for next year... Left Medical School Due to Lyme, Returning Now
Hi All, At the recommendation of another member, I decided to open a thread to see if I can get advice on the matter hopefully from adcoms or at least anyone who might have knowledge on the matter. A few years ago, I was enrolled in med school. However, due to a tick bite and consequential development of Lyme disease I left the medical school. (this was after taking two year long medical leaves) (they couldn't keep me longer due to policy) Thankfully the following fall I was placed on abx... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

She mentioned that her professor had acknowledged that it would be more difficult to identify, but sort of brushed it off... Diversity in Medical Education? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why won't Infectious Disease evaluate this possible Lyme Disease patient?
Patient is a 25 year old guy who found several ticks attached while biking/camping in an area with high lyme prevalence. Around 1 month later, he developed flu-like symptoms but doesn't remember seeing the EM rash. 3 months later he is now experiencing fatigue, malaise, exertional chest "heaviness", palpitations, dizziness. Western blot is IgG positive for Lyme. He has never been treated for Lyme before. His primary care is an NP who referred him to Infectious Disease, but when he...
