[Incidence of type 2 diabetes among oral cancer patients in Hungary].
CONCLUSIONS: The rise of type 2 diabetes in the tumor group was significant. This could be a burden for the health care system. We want to highlight the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation between health care professionals. Orv Hetil. 2018; 159(20): 803-807. Cancer risks in recipients of renal transplants: a meta-analysis of cohort studies.
Authors: Wang Y, Lan GB, Peng FH, Xie XB Abstract Renal transplantation is associated with an increased risk of cancers at multiple sites; however, the relationships between increased cancer risk and participant characteristics remain unclear. We searched PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library to identify prospective observational studies performed up to July 2017. Totally 11 prospective studies reported data on 79,988 renal transplant recipients were included. Renal transplant recipients were found to display a higher risk of all cancers (standard incidence ratio [SIR]: 2.89; 95% CI: 2.13-3.91; P < 0...

Natural history of a squamous cell carcinoma of the lower lip.
CONCLUSION: Despite the tumor stage and co-morbidities, the patient makes the treatment decisions; therefore, the implications of these decisions must be discussed. PMID: 29557568 [PubMed - in process] (Source: B-ENT)

Antihypertensive drugs and risk of skin cancer.
Authors: Cassano N, DI Stefani A, Vena GA, Peris K Abstract The potential carcinogenic risk of antihypertensive drugs has been examined in several studies that reported controversial results. The association between treatment with antihypertensives and risk of skin cancer has also been questioned, considering the longterm administration of such drugs and the ability of some agents to cause photosensitive reactions. In fact, experimental and epidemiologic findings suggest a link between druginduced photosensitivity and skin cancer, possibly through the induction of DNA damage in predisposed individuals. Ant...

Multiple primary squamous cell carcinomas of the lower lip and tongue arising in discoid lupus erythematosus: a case report
Publication date: February 2018 Source:Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology, Volume 125, Issue 2 Author(s): Ioanna-Eirini Arvanitidou, Nikolaos G. Nikitakis, Maria Georgaki, Nick Papadogeorgakis, Athanasios Tzioufas, Alexandra Sklavounou Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) developing in lesions of discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) is rare, most frequently arising on sun-exposed skin and very rarely affecting the lips. A review of the English language literature revealed only 21 published cases of labial SCC in patients with DLE. Here, an unusual case of a patient with DLE who developed 3 primary...

Simulation of facial expressions using person-specific sEMG signals controlling a biomechanical face model
ConclusionWe demonstrated that MAPs derived from noninvasive sEMG measurements can control movement of the lips in a generic finite element face model with a median\(\rho \) of 0.78. Ultimately, this is important to show the patient-specific residual movement using the patient ’s own MAPs. When the required treatment tools and personalisation techniques for geometry and anatomy become available, this may enable surgeons to test the functional results of wedge excisions for lip cancer in a virtual environment and to weigh surgery versus organ-sparing radiotherapy or phot odynamic therapy. Clinicopathological study of lip cancer: a retrospective hospital ‐based study in Taiwan
To evaluate the clinicopathological characteristics, high‐risk lifestyle factors (HRLF: chronic exposure to sun, betel quid, alcohol, and tobacco), and prognostic factors of lip cancer. The hospital records of patients with pathologically confirmed lip squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC, n = 112) and lip basal cell carcinoma (LBCC, n = 21) were reviewed. Differences in clinicopathological characteristics between LSCC and LBCC, upper and lower lip, and status of second primary tumors were compared by chi‐square test and logistic regression. The prognostic factors for LSCC were analyzed by Cox regression. Compared with LB...

Intraoral stents in preventing adverse radiotherapeutic effects in lip cancer patients
Conclusions The use of individualized intraoral stents was shown to be promising in reducing the adverse effects of radiation therapy in lip cancer patients. These findings highlight the importance of a multidisciplinary team during oncological therapy. (Source: Reports of Practical Oncology and Radiotherapy)

Stage is a prognostic factor for surgically treated patients with early-stage lip cancer for whom a 'wait and see' policy in terms of neck status has been implemented.
