Cancer incidence among musicians: 45 years of follow-up in four Nordic countries
CONCLUSION: Musicians have characteristics of indoor workers such as low incidence of lip cancer and high incidence of skin melanoma. The low incidence of lung cancer suggests that the prevalence of smoking among musicians is lower than in the general population while the elevated risk of alcohol-related cancer types suggest that drinking is likely more common among musicians. The cancer risk for all sites combined is still similar to that of the general population in the four countries studied.PMID:34162315 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2021.1924403 (Source: Acta Oncologica)

Blocking pd-1/pd-l1 axis is required for prolonged response to trametinib in tongue and lip cancer models in mice
Acquisition of resistance to anticancer therapies is associated with increased expression of immunosuppressor modulators that enable tumor cells to escape from the antitumor immunity machinery. (Source: Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Endodontics)

Global oral health in the international health policy spotlight-challenges and new opportunities for sustainable improvement
Bundesgesundheitsblatt Gesundheitsforschung Gesundheitsschutz. 2021 Jun 8. doi: 10.1007/s00103-021-03353-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOral diseases are a significant global health problem across all countries and populations. With about 3.5 billion cases (2017), more people are affected than by any other disease group. The main oral diseases comprise tooth decay of permanent and deciduous teeth, severe periodontal disease, and oral and lip cancer. With a largely unchanged high global prevalence, but significantly growing population sizes, the pressure on health systems is increasing, particularly in low- and middle-inc...

Cancers, Vol. 13, Pages 1387: Pulsed Dose Rate Brachytherapy of Lip Carcinoma: Clinical Outcome and Quality of Life Analysis
Conclusions: This study confirms that an excellent local control rate is achieved with PDR brachytherapy as treatment of lip carcinoma, with very limited late side effects and satisfactory functional outcomes. A multimodal approach should help to improve regional control. (Source: Cancers)

The relevance of miRNAs as promising biomarkers in lip cancer
ConclusionsThe upregulation of miR-181b, miR-31, and miR-345 expression in actinic cheilitis without epithelial dysplasia and the decrease in the expression of these miRNAs in actinic cheilitis with epithelial dysplasia and in lower lip cancer are potential biomarkers of malignant progression.Clinical relevanceThis miRNA signature can help to identify actinic cheilitis with potential to progress to lip cancer.
