Nocardiosis in kidney transplant recipients: A tertiary care center experience
CONCLUSION: Nocardia may cause a late-manifesting infection beyond the traditional window. The cotrimoxazole prophylaxis may not be sufficient for Nocardia prevention.PMID:38537681 | DOI:10.1016/j.trim.2024.102041 (Source: Transplant Immunology)

The Prevalence and Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Before and After the COVID-19 Pandemic in a Tertiary Saudi Hospital
CONCLUSION: It was concluded that the prevalence rates of MRSA have not increased in 2020 when compared to 2019. Vancomycin, linezolid, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, and doxycycline remain susceptible to the positive collected MRSA strains. There was no significant difference between the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance rates of MRSA between 2019 and 2020. Continued research efforts are needed to address this persistent public health threat. Strategies to control the spread of MRSA should include early detection of MRSA and surveillance, even during pandemics.PMID:38529437 | PMC:PMC10962010 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.548...

Whole genome sequencing and molecular epidemiology of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolated from patients with bacteraemia in Slovenia
ConclusionThis study demonstrates that bacteraemia in central Slovenia is caused by diverse MRSA lineages. Identification of newly emerged lineages should be followed in the future to detect changes in the molecular epidemiology of MRSA in our country. Recent advances in the exploration of oxazolidinone scaffolds from compound development to antibacterial agents and other bioactivities
Eur J Med Chem. 2024 Mar 13;269:116326. doi: 10.1016/j.ejmech.2024.116326. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBacterial infections cause a variety of life-threatening diseases, and the continuous evolution of drug-resistant bacteria poses an increasing threat to current antimicrobial regimens. Gram-positive bacteria (GPB) have a wide range of genetic capabilities that allow them to adapt to and develop resistance to practically all existing antibiotics. Oxazolidinones, a class of potent bacterial protein synthesis inhibitors with a unique mechanism of action involving inhibition of bacterial ribosomal translation, has emerged a...

Comparison of two acquisition modes in mass spectrometry for quantification of 12 antibiotics, including beta-lactams, linezolid, fluoroquinolones and clindamycin: Multiple reactions monitoring (MRM) and fullMS/dd-MS < sup > 2 < /sup >
Anal Biochem. 2024 Mar 19:115507. doi: 10.1016/j.ab.2024.115507. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe quantification of antibiotics, using mass spectrometry, for monitoring therapeutic drugs is a key benefit in infection management for many hospitals. After an easy work-up of plasma samples, analysis were performed using both We aimed to evaluate the differences and agreements between the two widely used acquisition modes: MRM for the triple quadrupole spectrometer and fullMS/ddMS2 for the HRMS to quantify twelve antibiotics. Comparison between the two acquisition modes were performed. Validation parameters and sample values ...

Characterization of Weissella Species during a 3-Year Observational Study - An Emerging Threat
In this study, we aimed to evaluate the demographic pattern, presenting symptoms, risk factors, associated pathologies, and clinical outcomes in patients with Weissella infection. We also analyzed the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of the Weissella species isolated. This retrospective observational study was done from January 2021 to August 2023 in a tertiary care referral center in Uttar Pradesh. All Weissella species isolated from blood cultures or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples during this period were included in the study. Twenty-four-hour growth from a positive blood culture or CSF sample was identified by matri...
