Improving Outcomes in Chronic Graft-vs-Host Disease
Chronic graft-vs-host disease (cGVHD) is a frequent, heterogeneous, and often life-threatening complication of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. A total of 25% to 50% of all transplant survivors develop cGVHD, and cutaneous manifestations are seen in approximately 75% of these patients. Cutaneous manifestations of cGVHD include skin fibrosis (sclerotic cGVHD), epidermal involvement resembling lichen planus, or a combination of both findings. Alopecia, genital inflammation/scarring, nail dystrophy, pigmentary changes, ulceration, and poor wound healing are additional features. Associated skin changes range...

Photobiomodulation versus corticosteroid in the management of erosive oral lichen planus: a randomized controlled clinical trial
Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic illness of immune origin that is typically treated with corticosteroids as a gold standard therapy. Photobiomodulation (PBM) may represent an alternative remedy that has t... (Source: BMC Oral Health)

What can we learn from treatments of oral lichen planus?
Oral lichen planus (OLP), a T-lymphocyte-mediated disease of the oral mucosa, has a complex pathogenesis that involves a number of factors. The disease is characterized by recurrent episodes and requires continuous follow up, and there is no curative treatment available. Erosive lichen planus, among others, has a risk of malignant transformation and requires standardized treatment to control its progression. Different clinical subtypes of oral lichen planus require appropriate treatment. Pharmacological treatments are the most widely available and have the greatest variety of options and a number of novel pharmacological t...

Unveiling the Potential of Serum MiR-483-5p: A Promising Diagnostic and Prognostic Biomarker in OLP and OSCC Patients by < em > In silico < /em > Analysis of Differential Gene Expression
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates the potential of serum miR-483-5p as a promising diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in OSCC and OLP patients. Its upregulation in OSCC patients and its association with advanced tumor stage and potential metastasis suggest the involvement of miR-483-5p in critical signaling pathways involved in cell proliferation, apoptosis, and cell cycle regulation, making it a reliable indicator of disease progression. Nevertheless, additional experimental studies are essential to validate these findings and establish a foundation for the advancement of targeted therapies and personalized treatment a...

Ocular Lichen Planus: A clinicopathologic review
Eur J Ophthalmol. 2024 Feb 2:11206721241229128. doi: 10.1177/11206721241229128. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLichen planus is a chronic inflammatory dermatosis that can affect the skin, mucous membranes and nails. Cutaneous lichen planus lesions are best described by the "six Ps" - purple pruritic polygonal planar papules and plaques. Mucous membrane lesions are commonly associated with cutaneous lichen planus. Ocular involvement with lichen planus is rare and conjunctival involvement usually predominates, it can however be visually devastating. Ocular lichen planus often progresses to extensive conjunctival scarring whic...

Atypical Dyschromia in Skin of Color
J Drugs Dermatol. 2024 Feb 1;23(2):100-102. doi: 10.36849/JDD.7683.ABSTRACTDyschromia is a concern for many patients, especially persons of color. Postinflammatory hypopigmentation and depigmentation can affect all skin types; however, it is more apparent in those with darker skin. Some members of the dermatology community may not comprehensively understand the mechanisms of these reactions and the extent of the psychosocial effect they have on persons of color. Skin of color patients experiencing a decrease or loss of pigmentation are left with few treatment options, with no available evidence-based treatment established ...
