Safety of Biological Therapies for Severe Asthma: An Analysis of Suspected Adverse Reactions Reported in the WHO Pharmacovigilance Database
CONCLUSIONS: The most frequently reported suspected ADRs of asthma biologics in VigiBase confirmed the presence of well-known adverse effects such as general disorders, injection-site reactions, nasopharyngitis, headache and hypersensitivity, while some others (e.g. asthma reactivation or therapeutic failure) could be ascribed to the indication of use. Moreover, the analysis of signals of disproportionate reporting suggests the presence of malignancies, effects on the cardiovascular system, alopecia and autoimmune conditions, requiring further assessment and investigation.PMID:38489062 | DOI:10.1007/s40259-024-00653-6 (Source: Herpes)

Pathological changes in oral epithelium and the expression of SARS-CoV-2 entry receptors, ACE2 and furin
by Osnat Grinstein-Koren, Michal Lusthaus, Hilla Tabibian-Keissar, Ilana Kaplan, Amos Buchner, Ron Ilatov, Marilena Vered, Ayelet Zlotogorski-Hurvitz BackgroundExpression of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE)-2 and co-factors like furin, play key-roles in entry of SARS-CoV-2 into host cells. Furin is also involved in oral carcinogenesis. We investigated their expression in oral pre-malignant/malignant epithelial pathologies to evaluate whether ACE2 and furin expression might increase susceptibility of patients with these lesions for SARS-CoV-2 infection. MethodsStudy included normal oral mucosa (N = 14), epithelial hyperp...

Downregulation of salivary miR-3928 as a potential biomarker in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma and oral lichen planus
CONCLUSIONS: The salivary miR-3928 can play a tumor suppressive role in the pathobiology of OSCC, and it is significantly downregulated in patients. According to the potential tumor suppressive role of miR-3928 in the OSCC process, we can consider this microRNA as a biomarker for future early diagnosis, screening, and potential target therapy.PMID:38481355 | DOI:10.1002/cre2.877 (Source: Cell Research)

Lichen planus triggered by COVID-19 vaccination: A case series
We present a case series of lichen planus that appeared after receiving the COVISHIELD vaccine from Oxford-AstraZeneca. In order to rule out any further potential triggers, like recent infections, prior drug use, smoking, dental treatments, etc., a thorough history was collected in each instance. Skin biopsies were used to confirm each case's diagnosis. In nearly all of the cases, skin biopsies revealed typical dermatopathological features of lichen planus.PMID:38482327 | PMC:PMC10931865 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_664_23 (Source: Primary Care)

Association between Vitamin D Receptor Polymorphism and Susceptibility to Oral Lichen Planus and Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
CONCLUSION: There was a positive association between rs7975232 VDR polymorphism and susceptibility to OSCC. More experimental evidence must reveal the possible association between rs7975232 and the risk of OLP in a larger cohort.PMID:38476562 | PMC:PMC10925961 | DOI:10.22038/IJORL.2024.73925.3489 (Source: Cancer Control)

The efficacy and safety of deucravacitinib compared to methotrexate, in patients with vulvar lichen planus who have failed topical therapy with potent corticosteroids: a study protocol for a single-centre double-blinded randomised controlled trial
Vulvar lichen planus (VLP) is a chronic vulvar dermatosis that is difficult to treat and can severely impair quality of life in the absence of adequate treatment. There is a lack of high-quality evidence to di... (Source: Trials)

Immunophenotypic and Gene Expression Analyses of the Inflammatory Microenvironment in High-Grade Oral Epithelial Dysplasia and Oral Lichen Planus
ConclusionsThe immune microenvironment distinguishes OED and OLP, suggesting diagnostic potential. Upregulated genes indicate cytotoxic immune response in OED. Downregulation ofTRADD,CX3CL1, andILI24 implies dysregulation inTNFR1 signaling, immune recruitment, and tumor suppression. This study contributes to the foundation for understanding immune interactions in OED and OLP, offering insights into future objective diagnostic avenues. (Source: Head and Neck Pathology)
