5-Aminolevulinic Acid-Mediated Photodynamic Therapy on Wound Healing: A Systemic Review of Human Evidences
CONCLUSIONS: This systematic review summarized the commonly used therapeutic parameters for ALA-PDT in the clinical treatment of skin wounds. After ALA-PDT alone or ALA-PDT combined with curettage, antibacterial and surgical treatment, all wounds healed well, and the adverse reactions were mainly mild to moderate pain, which could be relieved by cooling. ALA-PDT had proven to be a promising wound treatment modality through evidence of safety and efficacy.PMID:38133931 | DOI:10.7547/23-015 (Source: Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association)

Lichenoid mycosis fungoides: Report of a case with lichen planus ‐like histopathologic features
We report a 61-year-old patient with 5-year history of generalized violaceous patches and plaques. His biopsy revealed a marked lichenoid band-like infiltrate of inflammatory cells along the basal layer with basal layer vacuolar changes; the diagnosis of lichen planus was first made histopathologically. Several biopsy specimens, clinicopathologic correlation, and immunohistochemistry findings confirmed the diagnosis of lichenoid MF. Awareness of peculiar histopathologic findings of MF is essential to avoid a potential misdiagnosis. When in doubt, multiple biopsies with other diagnostic methods should be employed. (Source: ...

Patients with oral lichen planus display lower levels of salivary acidic glycoproteins than individuals without oral mucosal disease
ConclusionsPatients with OLP showed a high prevalence of xerostomia and lower levels of salivary acidic type glycoproteins compared to the individuals without oral mucosa disease.Clinical relevanceIt is relevant to investigate the role of acidic glycoproteins in the pathogenesis of OLP. Proliferative verrucous leukoplakia mimicking oral lichen planus: case report and literature review
This report presents the clinical, microscopic and immunohistochemical aspects of a case of proliferative verrucous leukoplakia (PVL) mimicking oral lichen planus (OLP) in a 66-year-old woman. We also review the literature reporting cases of PVL mimicking OLP, where we found a higher prevalence in women who do not consume tobacco or alcohol. The initial manifestation of lichenoid areas was around the age of 59, with the diagnosis of PVL being established on average 6 years later, while malignant transformation occurred in 8 of the 22 cases at an average of 3.7 years after the final diagnosis of PVL. We emphasize the need f...

Evaluation of curcumin for dermatologic conditions: a systematic review
AbstractThere is increasing demand for natural and sustainable products for the treatment of dermatologic conditions. This systematic review aims to critically analyze published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and provide evidence-based recommendations on the therapeutic use of curcumin for a variety of dermatological diseases. A systematic search of published literature was performed on July 18, 2023 using PRISMA guidelines for turmeric or curcumin for the treatment of skin diseases. Clinical recommendations were made based on the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine guidelines. We identified 18 original randomiz...

A large sample-based case-control study of related risk factors of two types of lichenoid vulvar disease (LVD)
Lichenoid vulvar dermatoses (LVD) present a kind of chronic inflammatory disease, and the most common clinical symptom of LVD is vulvar pruritus or pain. LVD include vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS), lichen planus and vulvar lichen simplex chronicus (VLSC)[1]. Therefore, as the two most common types, VLS and VLSC are important part of LVD in clinic. Studies have shown that these VLS and VLSC are similar in histopathology, disease progression, clinical manifestation and natural outcome[2]. However, VLS and VLSC have their own characteristic manifestations, and their differential diagnosis is of great significance for the treat...

Histologic and Histomorphometric Comparative Study of Oral Lichen Planus Versus Oral Lichenoid Reaction
ConclusionWe showed a significant difference in the nuclear and cellular area, nuclear-to-cytoplasm ratio between OLPs and OLRs, and healthy controls, but there was no statistically significant difference between OLPs and OLRs. Thus, these parameters cannot be applied to differentiate diagnoses between OLPs and OLRs. (Source: Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery)

The expression of p53, ki67 and COX-2 in erosive-type oral lichen planus
Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand). 2023 Nov 30;69(12):242-247. doi: 10.14715/cmb/2023.69.12.38.ABSTRACTOral lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the oral mucosa and may undergo malignant changes, which can be reflected in the expression of specific proteins that are responsible for maintaining cellular mitosis and apoptosis. The study aimed to investigate the expression of p53, ki67, and COX-2 in erosive lichen planus using immunohistochemistry to correlate these findings with the histological aspects of the disease. Thirty-three biopsies of erosive lichen planus were collected and diagnosed based on h...
