Learning in Fellowship w/o Fellows Clinic?
I’m a 3rd year IM resident who is preparing to start fellowship in July at an NCI CCC, but not an extremely prestigious one. Although my program has a lot of positives to it, it does not have a fellows clinic, even at the VA interestingly enough. I have often heard about the value of the autonomy you get in a fellows clinic. Although I’m not sure I can close the clinical gap all the way, I would like to be as well trained as possible. How should I approach preparing for an attendings clinic... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

how to talk about my GPA trend?
so essentially my sophomore year my grades started falling- I had some personal issues going on but i know that adcoms doesn't like it when you talk about depression. Another thing that was going on was an undiagnosed learning disability---> Essentially i went from 20 ppl classes in HS to being homeschooled my freshman year bc of COVID to 300-level classes. I noticed that I was doing better in my more challenging honors classes (that had a smaller class size) And... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

does it look bad to have a minor in spanish if I don't speak spanish?
I know, it sounds ridiculous. but I've been studying spanish for like 5 years now and I still can't speak anywhere close to fluently. I've got A's in all my spanish classes bc they just aren't that hard, but then when it comes to having a conversation... i'm absolutely useless. i've been pursuing a spanish minor because i genuinely enjoy learning it and think it's really interesting, but I'm worried that medical schools will expect me to speak spanish after studying it for so long. I'm a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Questions About NCC
I have been learning more about what fellowship paths there are post neuro residency, and I came across NCC. Just an M1, but I had a few questions about it. Is NCC a competitive fellowship, similar to cards/GI/PCCM/heme onc? i.e. will I need to be coming from an academic program? Or is this something I’ll be able to match given I’m a decent resident who works hard? How is the job market for NCC? Is this a niche field with only a few amount of jobs available, or is it a growing field? From... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Withdraw pre-decision?
Hi everyone, I am in a bit of a confusing situation that I would love some insight on. I am currently waitlisted at two schools and waiting to hear from two others - no acceptances yet. Later in the cycle, when I still had no interview invites, I decided to apply to a brand new medical school, and ended up getting an interview there (this is one of the schools I am waiting to hear from). However, after learning more about the school in the interview (mostly about aspects of it being a new... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Rising 4th Year
I just passed my last Shelf exam for clerkships and I'll be taking Step 1 in May as well as sitting for Step 2 a few months later. I'm also debating taking Step 3 before I start my intern year. I've been feeling anxious about being prepared for Intern year. What are some tips or advice for how to prepare myself during 4th year? I know the learning curve is steep, but I want to go into residency as prepared as possible. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Anyone want to guess at the number of unfilled spots this year?
Slow shift tonight in my ER, and my partner and I are chatting about the Match (if it stays like this for another hour, I'm probably gonna cut him loose). On Monday morning, we will learn how many spots are unfilled for the SOAP. On Thursday evening, we will learn how many spots are left for scramble. My guess: 150 unfilled Monday, 35 scramble Thursday His guess: 350 unfilled Monday, 50 scramble Thursday My rationale: Applications are slightly up for USMDs this year and significantly up... Chemical engineer pursing MD
Hi guys, I'm a chemical engineer who have been working in the industry for almost one year now. Although the pay is good, I still feel the lack of fulfillment in my job, so I want to pursue medical school. I felt like my chances are too low so I'm looking for advices. Little bit of background, I used to be a pre-med student but I struggle a lot throughout years, mainly because of the lack of understanding my own desire and learning a new language (my family was immigrants to the US). After... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
