Going abroad during admissions
Essentially, I want to go abroad to Spain for a few weeks in October with family to do a Spanish immersion program (one of my big goals for my gap year is learning some Spanish). My only school that interviews in person is Jefferson and I should be able to do remote interviews from Spain. My question is more, does it look bad to take a sabbatical from work during applications to travel (especially when I literally just spent 2 months over the summer traveling). I don't want to come off like... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

ASPN Meet-Up July 13-16 in Miami
All indicators are that this event is going to be OFF THE HOOK. Science, check. Deals, check. Game-changing pain surgery, check. So much to learn at the podium and the pool. This will be a prime opportunity for new grads and fellows to be baptized into the specialty and drink from the hose of the knowledge by those who have primed the pump for decades. Just remember that "no" means "no," but it's not really a conflict of interest unless you want it to be. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Intrest in Specific OMFS Programs
I was wondering if anyone has any tips on showing interest in specific programs. Due to my dental school schedule, I have little time available to complete many externships. What is the best way to learn more about the program and show interest? Thanks (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Note Taking
Hey everyone! I’m about 3 weeks away from starting my D1 year, and I’m starting to get a game plan for how I’m going to tackle the course load. I’m going to try and switch things up from my undergrad and wanted to try some new techniques for learning. I have a plan for before and after lecture, but what does everyone prefer to do during lectures to maximize retention? Annotate slides? Word for word notes? Just listen? I wanted to hear what’s worked in dental school for everyone since I did a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Diversity Essay Ideas
Hello everyone! I am struggling a little with my diversity essay and what makes me a unique applicant. I have a few ideas and any help narrowing them down would be very appreciated! 1) Playing on the D1 tennis team at my university. Learning how to balance academics and athletics. Connecting with a wide range of players on my team, including international students. Playing tournaments with different doubles partners taught me how to communicate effectively, tailoring to each person's... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

NP "collaboration"
I've been asked to be the supervising psychiatrist for an NP I used to supervise at my clinic who is now considering opening a private practice clinic. They are in the exploratory phase of making a business plan and so haven't given any compensation or role details yet. I said I would be interested to learn more about the opportunity as it develops. My initial thought is to decline unless I receive an ownership stake and significant compensation, though I'm not sure how much I would need to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

If I just want to get by with a graded school how much do I have to study?
If I just want to go into primary care or another non-competitive specialty how much do I have to sit down and study? I keep reading some students study 10+ hours a day for 6 days a week. I won't lie I want to study 5 hours at most and have a life beyond that learning other things in life and spending time with people. I don't want to give up gym either which requires a lot of eating/cooking/grocery shopping beyond just the 1-2 hours in the gym. EDIT: Get by as a good/mediocre student. Not... Compensation down?
nycitygas said: I did my fellowship at WashU several years ago. Great learning experience, horrible work/life balance. Not sure if anything changed, but it was worse than my surgery intern year. As someone who has been out for awhile, I caution against doing an ICU fellowship unless you truly hate the OR. The anesthesia job market is on rocket fire while the ICU market is in the dumps. I don’t see the Intensivist market getting better- too many ER-ICU trained physicians in the pipeline. Click to expand... As a new... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

neuropsych psychometrician profit-share?
Hi All - I am about to start a small, part-time neuropsych / testing clinic. I will focus primarily on children and adolescents for learning disabilities and school accommodations, etc. There is someone I plan work with from the outset to help me administer the assessments and testing. They have experience in this area and they would also do much of the administrative work (e.g., communicate with patients and parents to do scheduling, etc.). I was thinking of doing profit sharing with them... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Being a dentist is awesome!!
Hello, future dentists out there, I have been practicing dentistry since 2012. Let me tell you this: No regrets. The first five years of practicing is hard, but I have so much fun learning and making a real difference in people's life. Now I am going back for endo. But general dentistry has served me and my family very well. It is a good profession!!! Well, there are some days you will feel like sh***, but to get the patient out of pain, either endo or EXT third molars indeed make a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hello! I am new to this website. I am an undergrad majoring in psychology and am interested in applying to PsyD programs. I am now looking into the PsyD programs at Rutgers, Palo Alto, Baylor and University of Denver. Are there anyone currently in the program and can provide some insight and opinions on their programs?
