Intraocular pressure profile following selective laser trabeculoplasty in pigmentary and primary open-angle glaucoma
CONCLUSIONS: SLT was comparably effective in both PG and POAG. IOP spikes were observed only in the PG group, though the total laser energy was lower in this group compared with POAG.PMID:38470322 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241237305 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Long-Term Efficacy of Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty in Primary Angle-Closure Disease After Laser Peripheral Iridotomy
CONCLUSIONS: SLT appears a safe and cost-effective procedure in PAC/mild- moderate PACG eyes with uncontrolled IOP after laser iridotomy. The long-term effectiveness of SLT as adjuvant treatment was good, but need large sized randomized studies for more validation.PMID:38404174 | DOI:10.1080/08820538.2024.2312946 (Source: Seminars in Ophthalmology)

Differentiating stages of functional vision loss from glaucoma using the Disc Damage Likelihood Scale and cup:disc ratio
Conclusion This study indicates that both structural staging systems can differentiate severe/end-stage glaucoma from less severe disease, with a moderate advantage of DDLS over CDR. Clinical examination of the optic disc plays an important role in addition to functional assessment when managing severe/end-stage glaucoma. (Source: British Journal of Ophthalmology)

Former smoking as a risk factor for visual field progression in exfoliation glaucoma patients in Sweden
CONCLUSIONS: Former smoking induced visual field deterioration in all models studied. Smoking status should be considered when establishing the glaucoma diagnosis. Increased glaucoma care should be provided to former smokers to slow the progression of the disease.PMID:38233361 | DOI:10.1177/11206721241226990 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Quantification of Postoperative Inflammation in Laser and Surgical Procedures for Glaucoma with Laser Flare Photometry: A Review of the Literature
CONCLUSION: In comparison to clinician grading, laser flare photometry provides a more objective measure of post-surgical inflammation in eyes that have undergone laser and surgery for glaucoma. Further research is warranted into how this instrument can be utilized to identify eyes at high risk of failure and other adverse outcomes after glaucoma surgery.PMID:37994868 | DOI:10.1080/02713683.2023.2282940 (Source: Current Eye Research)

Intraoperative iStent versus postoperative selective laser trabeculoplasty in early glaucoma patients undergoing cataract surgery: A retrospective comparative study
CONCLUSION: These results suggest similar safety and efficacy of intraoperative iStent and postoperative 360° SLT in lowering IOP and reducing glaucoma eye drops in early glaucoma patients undergoing cataract surgery. Treatment choice should be based on the ophthalmologist's experience and on the cost-benefit ratio.PMID:37783587 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfo.2023.03.042 (Source: Journal Francais d Ophtalmologie)

Effectiveness and Safety of Xen Gel Stent in Glaucoma Surgery: A Systematic Review of the Literature
This study aimed to review the effectiveness and safety of clinical data on XEN-stent in OAG patients with a Synthesis-Without-Meta-analysis (SWiM) methodology. A total of 339 studies were identified following a literature search adhering to PRISMA guidelines and, after evaluation, 96 studies are discussed. XEN63 and XEN45 device data were collected both short and long term. In addition, this document has evaluated different aspects related to the XEN implant, including: its role compared to trabeculectomy; the impact of mitomycin-C dose on clinical outcomes; postoperative management of the device; and the identification o...
