Carl Zeiss acquires cataract surgery planning software dev Veracity Innovations
Carl Zeiss Meditec (ETR:AFX) said today it is acquiring cloud-based ophthalmological tech developer Veracity Innovations for an undisclosed amount.
Veracity Innovations developed and produces a cloud-based surgical planning platform for cataract surgeries, covering initial planning, management and analysis of the procedures.
The system is designed to interface directly with multiple electronic medical records and diagnostic devices, covering patients from initial consultation through post-operation, Carl Zeiss said.

Monteris Medical raises $27m Series C for NeuroBlate brain surgery device
Monteris Medical said yesterday that it raised a Series C round worth nearly $27 million it plans to use on R&D, clinical trials and expanding the commercial footprint of its NeuroBlate brain surgery device.
Versant Ventures and SightLine Partners led the round, joined by prior backers Birchview Capital and BDC Capital’s Healthcare Venture Fund, Monteris said.

Data analysis finds lower risk of infection with LASIK than with contacts over time
(University of Tennessee Health Science Center) A meta-data analysis comparing the incidence of microbial keratitis, an infection of the cornea caused by bacteria or a virus, for contact lens wearers versus post-LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) patients indicates that over time the infection rate for the contact lens wearers was higher than for those who had LASIK to correct their vision.
