Impact of Functional Conservation Surgery on Sleep Respiration of Patients with Glottic Cancer
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of OSAHS in patients with glottic cancer before and after surgery was higher than that in the general population. The effect of functional preservation surgery on sleep breathing in patients with glottic cancer is related to the degree of destruction of the thyroid cartilage scaffold and the scope of surgery. Surgery mainly increases the degree of OSAHS by aggravating patients' hypoventilation rather than apnea.PMID:38330556 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

Pembrolizumab-Induced Liver Injury: Beyond Immune-Mediated Hepatitis
Question: A 43-year-old man was referred to the liver unit from the oncology department. A year before, he was diagnosed with well differentiated pT4 laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma and underwent a total laryngectomy. Treatment with pembrolizumab every 3 weeks also started, which he was still receiving. He had neither a pre-existing liver condition nor excessive alcohol consumption. (Source: Gastroenterology)

Minimal invasive LASER-resection < em > vs < /em > . radiotherapy as primary treatment of early glottic cancer. A population-based study with, up to 16 years follow up of survival, rate of laryngectomy and voice function
CONCLUSIONS: By reducing the surgical margins, we have achieved a better voice function (T1A) but more patients have needed repeated laser excisions and some have also needed supplementary radiotherapy. The risk of laryngectomy and survival were apparently not affected.PMID:38294703 | DOI:10.1080/00016489.2023.2299674 (Source: Acta Oto-Laryngologica)

Modified Gugging Swallowing Screen: A New Bedside Evaluation Tool for Swallowing Function in Patients with Open Partial Laryngectomy before Oral Feeding: A Single-Centre Retrospective Study
CONCLUSIONS: We successfully modified GUSS for patients with open partial laryngectomy. Moreover, the new bedside screening tool was validated as an effective tool for evaluating swallowing function and the risk of aspiration in patients with open partial laryngectomy before oral feeding.PMID:38273749 | DOI:10.24976/Discov.Med.202436180.8 (Source: Discovery Medicine)
