Blood Stem Cell Clonality and the Niche
Speaker Leonard Zon, M.D., is HHMI Investigator; Grousbeck Professor of Pediatric Medicine, Harvard Medical School; Director, Stem Cell Program at Boston Children's Hospital. The Zon laboratory aims to dissect how assaults to the hematopoietic system cause severe diseases such as leukemias, lymphomas, and anemias. They investigate hematopoietic development and disease using chemical screens, genetic screens, and analysis of novel transgenic lines in zebrafish. For more information go tohttps://oir.nih.gov/walsAir date: 11/17/2021 3:00:00 PM (Source: Videocast - All Events)

Neural Representations of Social Homeostasis
Speaker Kay Tye, Ph.D., is Professor, Systems Neurobiology Laboratory; and Wylie Vale Chair, Salk Institute. Tye ’ s lab seeks to understand the neural-circuit basis of emotion that leads to motivated behaviors such as social interaction, reward-seeking and avoidance. Her lab employs a multidisciplinary approach including cellular-resolution recordings, behavioral assays and optogenetics, a technique that activates certain cells with light, to find mechanistic explanations for how these emotional and motivational states influence behavior in health and disease. For more information go tohttps://oir.nih.gov/walsAir date: 1...

Human Oncogenic Viruses: Nature, Discovery, and Running Around in Circles
Wednesday Afternoon Lecture Series Annual George Khoury Lecture Dr. Chang is Distinguished Professor of Pathology in the Cancer Virology Program, University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. Her laboratory performs basic and applied research on viral oncogenesis with efforts focused in three areas: Merkel cell carcinoma and Merkel cell polyomavirus, the latter of which she discovered; Kaposi ’ s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus, the most common AIDS-associated malignancy; and new pathogen discovery. Seven viruses collectively comprise an important cause of cancer, particularly in less-developed countries and under conditions...
