Robotic Flexible Ureteroscopy: A Step-by-step Video by Using Roboflex AvicennaTM Platform
The management of kidney stones, particularly those in the renal pelvis, is a critical aspect of urology. The European Association of Urology guidelines recommend Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy or Endourology methods, encompassing Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy and Ureterorenoscopy (URS), for stones ranging from 10-20 mm. Robotic-assisted urological procedures have gained prominence in recent years, promising enhanced precision, and safety. (Source: Urology)

Editorial comment on: “Clinical Efficacy Evaluation of a Novel Negative Pressure Ureteroscopic Lithotripsy for Ureteral Stones”
There have been numerous advances in the treatment of nephrolithiasis, including miniaturized instrumentation and new laser technology; however, the purpose of the procedure remains the same —to render the patient stone free. Recent publications re-emphasizes the need to render patients stone free with residual fragment size contributing to stone-related events for both percutaneous nephrolithotomy1 and ureteroscopy.2 Both the vacuum-assisted ureteral and percutaneous access sheaths a re now commonly used with advertised benefits of a reduction in stone retropulsion, shorter operating room times, and potentially reducing...

Optimizing outcome reporting after robotic flexible ureteroscopy for management of renal calculi: Introducing the concept of tetrafecta
AbstractRobotic flexible ureteroscopy (RFURS) has shown encouraging results in terms of stone free rate (SFR) and better ergonomics compared to conventional FURS. However, few studies have reported its outcomes. The goal of this study was to report our initial results of RFURS, furthermore we proposed a novel metrics for composite outcome reporting named tetrafecta. A retrospective analysis of electronic records of 100 patients treated with RFURS for renal stones between 2019 till 2023 was performed. Tetrafecta criteria included, complete stone removal after a single treatment session, without auxiliary procedures, absence...

Ceftriaxone-induced severe hemolytic anemia, renal calculi, and cholecystolithiasis in a 3-year-old child: a case report and literature review
This report details a rare and severe case of ceftriaxone-induced severe immune hemolytic anemia (IHA), hemolytic crisis, myocardial injury, liver injury, renal calculi, and cholecystolithiasis in a previously healthy 3-year-old child. The child, treated for bronchitis, experienced sudden pallor, limb stiffness, and altered consciousness following the fifth day of ceftriaxone infusion, with hemoglobin (Hb) levels precipitously dropping to 21 g/L. Immediate cessation of ceftriaxone and the administration of oxygen therapy, blood transfusion, intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), and corticosteroids led to a gradual recovery. ...

Biochemical characteristics and clinical manifestation of normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism
ConclusionThe patients with nPHPT show a more favorable biochemical profile compared to those with hPHPT. Nevertheless, clinical manifestations and complications are similar, without a significant difference in the frequency of osteoporosis, nephrolithiasis, gastrointestinal disorders and low-energy fractures. Can shear wave elastography predict the success of shock ‑wave lithotripsy used in renal stones treatment? A prospective study
ConclusionsMeasurement of stone density by shear wave elastography (SWE) can be used as an alternative to HU in decision-making before SWL. SWL success depends mainly on stone site, HU, and SWE values. (Source: World Journal of Urology)

WATTS happening? Evaluation of thermal dose during holmium laser lithotripsy in a high-fidelity anatomic model
ConclusionTemperature generation and thermal dose delivered are greatest closer to the tip of the laser fiber and are not dependent on power alone. Significant temperature differences were noted between four laser settings at a standardized power (40  W). Temperatures can be influenced by a variety of factors, such as laser-on time, operator duty cycle, and location in the PCS. (Source: World Journal of Urology)
