Repeatability of epithelium thickness measured by an AS-OCT in different grades keratoconus and compared to AS-OCT/Placido topography
To compare agreement of corneal epithelium thickness (ET) between AS-OCT system (RTVue, Optovue, Fremont, USA) and AS-OCT/Placido topographer (MS-39, CSO, Florence, Italy) in different stages keratoconus (KC) eyes, and to assess the repeatability of RTVue AS-OCT. Effect of keratoplasty on the quality of life of keratoconus patients
In this study, we compare the quality of life of patients with keratoconus in the early (stages 1 and 2) or advanced (stages 3 and 4) stages of the Krumeich classification, as well as patients who have had keratoconus treated by keratoplasty. Quality of life was assessed using the NEI-VFQ 25 questionnaire, the most widely used for keratoconus. An aberrometric examination (OQAS®; HD Analyser, Visiometrics, Terrassa, Spain) was also performed to assess patients' quality of vision. Our results show that keratoplasty provides an improvement in quality of life compared with advanced-stage keratoconus in the areas of distance (...

Atopic Keratoconjunctivitis: Pathophysiology, Clinic, and Potential New Therapeutic Concepts
Klin Monbl Augenheilkd. 2024 Apr 11. doi: 10.1055/a-2244-2885. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic recurrent inflammatory skin disease with a bipolar age distribution in childhood, adolescence and middle adulthood. Up to 50% of AD patients show ocular involvement, which can be potentially sight threatening. Clinically, the majority of cases present with atopic blepharo(kerato)conjunctivitis or atopic keratoconjunctivitis (AKC); other clinical variants from this group of inflammatory ocular surface diseases are keratoconjunctivitis vernalis in childhood and adolescence and allergic conjunctivit...

Higher order aberrations in keratoconus ‏
ConclusionsEarly diagnosis can lead to early treatment and may allow for arresting progression, thereby improving the long-term prognosis. With the acceleration of refractive surgery, it is important to identify patients with keratoconus, as they are usually contraindicated for refractive surgery. (Source: International Ophthalmology)
