Vagal Nerve Stimulation for Epilepsy in Adults: a Database Risk Analysis and Review of the Literature
Epilepsy is one of the most common neurologic disorders, and often remains refractory despite pharmacologic treatment. In patients unamenable to surgical resection of seizure foci, vagal nerve stimulation (VNS) may provide benefit. Multiple case series have attempted to construct a risk profile for VNS, yet are largely confined to pediatric or single-center populations. (Source: World Neurosurgery)

Oligometastatic Disease State is Associated with Improved Local Control in Patients Undergoing 3 or 5 Fraction Spine Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy
The objective of our study was to describe the local control (LC) outcomes with 3 or 5 fraction stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) to the spine in patients with oligometastatic ( ≤ 5 systemic metastases) versus polymetastatic disease (> 5 metastases). (Source: World Neurosurgery)

The Evolution of Modern Treatment for Depressed Skull Fractures
Surgery for depressed skull fractures has developed over centuries to attain the consensus approaches currently employed. This review outlines the last 200 years of development of surgical approaches to closed and open depressed skull fractures, fractures involving dural venous sinuses and ping-pong fractures involving infants. Early reports often dealt with only closed and open depressed skull fractures. However, experience has shown that each fracture category merits its own management strategies. Subcortical calculation mapping during parietal glioma surgery in the dominant hemisphere: A case report
To avoid permanent neurologic deficits and preserve brain function in and near the eloquent area, intraoperative electrical stimulation mapping (IESM) is necessary. However, little is known about how these subcortical regions are involved in calculation processing function in patients with glioma. (Source: World Neurosurgery)

Selection strategy for optimal keyhole approaches for MCA aneurysms: lateral supraorbital versus minipterional craniotomy
We present our decision-making for selecting the mini-craniotomy, LS vs. MP, for managing non-complex aneurysms of the middle cerebral artery (MCA), based on the depth of the aneurysm within the Sylvian fissure. (Source: World Neurosurgery)

Endovascular Coiling of Ruptured Very Small Dissecting Fusiform Aneurysm of Posterior Inferior Cerebellar Artery with Parent Artery Preservation by Microcatheter Auto-Assistance
We report two patients presenting with SAH secondary to small (3 and 4 mm) dissecting fusiform aneurysms located within 1 cm distally to PICA origin, treated with a novel endovascular approach. (Source: World Neurosurgery)

Analysis of the correlation between cerebrospinal fluid space and outcomes of anterior controllable antedisplacement and fusion for cervical myelopathy due to ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament
To investigate whether cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) space on MRI correlates with the outcomes of anterior controllable antedisplacement and fusion (ACAF) for ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL). (Source: World Neurosurgery)

Application of a thrombin-gelatin matrix in the management of intractable hemorrhage during stereotactic biopsy: a Technical Note
We describe the injection of a thrombin-gelatin matrix through the biopsy cannula as an effective method to arrest surgical bed bleeding that does not respond to conventional methods of hemostasis. (Source: World Neurosurgery)

Comparative study between anterior cervical discectomy and fusion with ROI-C cage and laminoplasty for multilevel cervical spondylotic myelopathy without spinal stenosis
Selection of anterior versus posterior surgery for multilevel ( ≥3) cervical spondylotic myelopathy (MCSM) continues to be controversial. A comparison between anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) with ROI-C cage, and laminoplasty was made to determine the better treatment for MCSM. (Source: World Neurosurgery)

A Morphometric Analysis for the Feasibility of Percutaneous Translacerum Access of the Internal Carotid Artery Based on CT Angiography
The increasing frequency of elderly patients with severe tortuosity, especially, when combined with fibromuscular dysplasia, can make intracranial canalization severely difficult or impossible. CT angiograms were analyzed to determine the feasibility of accessing the internal carotid artery via a percutaneous translacerum approach. (Source: World Neurosurgery)

Bedside iohexol ventriculography for patients with obstructive colloid cysts: a protocol to identify auto-fenestration of the septum pellucidum
Patients with hydrocephalus secondary to third ventricular colloid cysts may require bilateral external ventricular drain (EVD) placement while awaiting surgery. However, some patients may develop auto-fenestration of the septum pellucidum (AFSP) and only require 1 EVD. We evaluated our experience with bedside iohexol ventriculography and staged EVD placement for patients with obstructive hydrocephalus. (Source: World Neurosurgery)
