Characterization and immunogenicity of a novel chimeric hepatitis B core-virus like particles (cVLPs) carrying rotavirus VP8*protein in mice model
Virology. 2023 Oct 9;588:109903. doi: 10.1016/j.virol.2023.109903. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGiven the efficacy and safety issues of the WHO for approved/prequalified live attenuated rotavirus (RV) vaccines, studies on alternative non-replicating modals and proper RV antigens are actively undertaken. Herein, we report the novel chimeric hepatitis B core-virus like particles (VLPs) carrying RV VP8*26-231 protein of a P [8] strain (cVLPVP8*), as a parenteral VLP RV vaccine candidate. SDS-PAGE and Western blotting analyses indicated the expected size of the E. coli-derived HBc-VP8* protein that self-assembled to cVLPVP8* ...

Identification of tyrphostin AG879 and A9 inhibiting replication of chikungunya virus by screening of a kinase inhibitor library
Virology. 2023 Oct 7;588:109900. doi: 10.1016/j.virol.2023.109900. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChikungunya virus (CHIKV) is a globally public health threat. There are currently no medications available to treat CHIKV infection. High-throughput screening of 419 kinase inhibitors was performed based on the cytopathic effect method, and six kinase inhibitors with reduced cytopathic effects, including tyrphostin AG879 (AG879), tyrphostin 9 (A9), sorafenib, sorafenib tosylate, regorafenib, and TAK-632, were identified. The anti-CHIKV activities of two receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors, AG879 and A9, that have not been previ...

Molecular identification and development of an infectious cDNA clone of Trichosanthes kirilowii-infecting cucurbit mild mosaic virus
In this study, cucurbit mild mosaic virus (CuMMV) belonging to the genus Fabavirus was identified from T. kirilowii plants. CuMMV possesses a segmented, bipartite linear single-stranded RNA genome composed of RNA1 and RNA2. Sequence analysis showed that each genomic segment shares the highest sequence similarity with those of CuMMV isolated from pumpkin. A full-length infectious cDNA clone of CuMMV was further constructed and was found to induce typical symptoms in T. kirilowii, Cucumis sativus, C. melo, Citrullus lanatus, and Cucurbita pepo. The sap inoculum derived from the infectious cDNA clone of CuMMV could be mechani...
